Pros
Great, friendly atmosphere. Great future.
Cons
They can be behind the times especially with technology.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue us on our current trajectory. Things are looking good. An extra week of vacation would be nice, too.
Pros
Benefits (but they are expensive)
The Pension plan is first rate
Employee product/stock purchase plan
Nice public transportation subsidy
Continuing education subsidy
Cons
Work life balance needs improvment
Talant pipeline is nice but not followed
Manager are promoted into power positions who do not understand the specific buiness of the division.
Advice to Senior Management
Quit talking about how employees are valued and start acting like it. Hold on to talent and stop letting associates who know the business leave.
Pros
Limited likelihood of lay-offs, good benefit options, you'll always have something to do and no 2 days will ever be the same.
Cons
Very little vacation, low pay and no work/life flexibility for supervisors of non-exempt staff. Only the "chosen ones" are given development opportunities and promotions, the rest of us are just left to plow through the work and not rock the boat. If you happen to fit the Ecolab mold, they'll love you and you'll love them, but if you do not "bleed blue" you'll most likely feel pretty excluded and ignored.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize that Financial Analysts are not the only associates that bring value to your company. You would get nothing accomplished if you didn't have non-exempt associates and their supervisors to do the work the analysts won't lower themselves, or stop "networking" long enough to do.
Pros
High performing.
Sales driven.
Continuous improvement toward culture and inclusion
Fair, honest, ethical company.
Opportunity to advance career in and across functions.
Headquartered in the twin cities with offices across the globe.
Cons
Heavy resources on sales minimizes resources in other functions. Need to fight hard for resources.
Pros
Field Service with vehicle and gas card, manage your own time.
Cons
benifits for equality need to be reworked but it does for most companies
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
Work life balance, coworkers are nice
Cons
Lack of talent development and promotion
Process is unclear
Advice to Senior Management
More talent retention program
Pros
Good benefits, Good company culture, Many associate networks, The culture of the company is trying to change to be more inclusive and more flexible to accomodate life/work balance
Cons
It's corporate America and you have the typical downsides of red tape and politics of working for a large company.
Advice to Senior Management
Company wide decreases in annual raises should truly be among all divisions and all employees if that's what employees are told.
Pros
Pension, Strong Sustainability Mission, Good corporate citizen
Cons
Still somewhat siloed businesses - getting better. IT infrastructure improving
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on IT -- new hire crop (younger generation) will judge Ecolab on IT /technology status
Pros
The culture of Ecolab varies significantly between divisions and even departments. Some divisions have the reputation of working employees excessively while others (such as R&D) are known for being more flexible and providing more recognition and support. Ecolab has a strong track record of success and will likely continue to have very good performance. The organization also contributes significantly to the community and to philanthropic causes. I always felt proud to work for Ecolab. There are many truly wonderful and talented people who work for the organization, and if you are lucky enough to work for one, you will likely love your job and have a very positive experience with the company.
Cons
I experienced or witnessed many examples of employees being expected to perform with inadequate resources, sometimes to the extreme. The culture at Ecolab is not diverse - in gender, ethnicity or even in personality/communications style. Outgoing, aggressive (or at least assertive) men seem to do best within the organization. I did not witness much tolerance for different work styles, although this varied between divisions. There also seems to be little trust of employees to do the job for which they were hired, resulting in reduced authority to make decisions or take action without an arguably excessive number of approvals.
Advice to Senior Management
Trust your employees to do their jobs; open your minds to more diversity
Pros
Overall a stable company. Some career growth opportunities if you find yourself a manager who cares about you. Competent management team.
Cons
Ecolab uses its size to hire above average people at below average cost. Personal growth largely dependent on your manager.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't ask your employees to save every penny when $$$ are giving to VP's and up. Ecolab needs to be more diverse to continue to grow globally.
