    Pros

Smart people, Entrepreneurship is valued, Great reputation

    Cons

Long hours, Lack of global opportunities, silo-ed teams

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create programs where all employees has the opportunity to have global opportunities. As a leader in the PR industry, Edelman should lead on all fronts from client services to employee engagement.

I have been working at Edelman full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I value Edelman's independence as an agency, its diverse practices and its global footprint. The LA office is very diverse and offers a great location for commuting from most locations in SoCal. I believe there is good opportunity for professional growth within the LA office.

    Cons

Because of its size, it does take time to navigate within the agency. Edelman offers so many practice groups and services that it requires time to fully understand how to integrate them in your day to day operations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Developing new business is important, but we must continue to keep our eyes on our current clients at all times. Sometimes your best new business is your existing clients.

I have been working at Edelman full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Every day I am amazed at the sheer tallent of our workforce, this is the best team of marketing professionals in the world. The company has shifted directions and clearly communicates these changes to the entire organization, there is continued training and most importantly trust in each employee to take risks and be bold.

    Cons

This industry is notorious for being one of the most stressful in the world, Edelman is no exception but that is not the fault of the company... more the choice of career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more selective at proactively pitching the right pieces of business.

I have been working at Edelman full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Edelman is a good place to start your career. You work long hours and are presented with very challenging tasks, but you can learn a lot over a short period of time.

    Cons

As you continue working for Edelman over a period of time, you learn that those who get promoted are basically failing up. The ones who succeed are not the best PR specialists, but those who are best at PR'ing themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should reflect more carefully on why Edelman loses many of its best people after working there for only a couple of years. People become disillusioned. They don't leave for salary reasons. It is because they are not being rewarded in other ways.

I have been working at Edelman full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Forward-thinking company that is a step (or more) ahead of everyone else when it comes to anticipating the future, due largely to senior leadership

    Opportunities for career growth

Employee satisfaction is a major priority

    Cons

Within specific practices/offices, senior team members can be lazy (work from home or come in late and/or leave early) while junior team members do a disproportionate amount of the heavy lifting

When turnover occurs, replacement hires are rarely adequate compared to former employees - it seems as if some hires have been made primarily so that current employees can collect a referral bonus

No matter how often it is preached, office politics (between other practices or offices, or even within the same team) is a frequent issue

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that everybody, not just junior team members, does their fair share

While replacement hires will by nature have different strengths and weaknesses than their predecessors, make sure they fill the voids the team needs them to fill

Crack down on all aspects office politics by refusing to reward it and disciplining those who engage in it at the expense of others

    Pros

Great place to work. Embraces diversity. Strong leadership in the LA office.

    Cons

Large agency. Takes time to be promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't really have any advice to management other than I wish they had the work to hire me full time.

Current Employee - Administrative Assistant in Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Edelman full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great people, although often silo-ed, usually good opportunities for advancement, although it can move very slowly. Many people here have been here for years. Edelman is working to improve office life and communities through programs such as Living in Color and Global Citizenship.

    Cons

Work life balance is difficult, people are just working all the time, and it is very difficult to get them away from their desks. We do have some fun though, but it take a while to get everyone amped up for an event, in or outside the office. There are some company policies or systems that are not totally effective either (GFS and Helpdesk).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be a policy for bio length and content. Fusion and Sharepoint should be maintained better with easy to find case studies, or information on who to contact in which office for each account, as well as general administrative needs.
