    Pros

Independence means freedom from the financial pressures put on agencies in holding companies; Richard Edelman's game-changing leadership; you will go to work each day surrounded by the smartest people in the industry, at all levels.

    Cons

The pace and size will not be for everyone. It is big, fast and extremely smart -- you have to be on your toes at all times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep setting the bar high and pushing the industry forward.

    Pros

I have been working at Edelman full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I have been employed at several well-known NYC agencies over the course of a long career, and Edelman is by far the best place I have ever worked. The "E" in Edelman stands for excellence. It is impossible to overrate the importance of the firm's independence and the outstanding leadership and commitment of the Edelman family. The firm is loaded with smart, creative people, who are challenged everyday to grow, learn, and give back. Hard work IS rewarded here.

    Cons

After experiencing other typical NYC agency environments, ranging from tolerable to unbearable, I truly can't think of any "cons" that amount to anything.

    Cons

There aren't many negatives. In some cases the leadership isnt as strong as it could be, but I am overall very pleased.

    Pros

Lots of resources available to employees and good work-life balance culture. Entrepreneurial spirit is strong and employees are given opportunity to explore interests.

    Cons

Lots of turnover -- people come and go all the time. Difficult to keep abreast with all the changes and there is a lot of politics involved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Edelman full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Might work on an array of brands which Edelman has lots of access to. Insurance coverage is great. Roof deck is amazing (when you get to use it).

    Cons

Will work you to the bone. Completely thankless. I was belittled by my boss even though he liked my work and I pulled 16 hour days, 4 days a week. Working on digital work or campaigns was a nightmare because the PR teams try to govern them, but so do the creative teams. People like to pretend that they know what they are doing, but it's more about politics than anything else. And they try and give you a whole Edelman propaganda lowdown, so they can get you to drink the koolaid, when working there just causes you to drink excessively from stress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider work life balance. Allow Senior Management to actually respect their teams. And consider your work more than politics otherwise, all of the work is going to remain half-staff. And allow your creative teams a little more autonomy from your PR teams.

I have been working at Edelman full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Feels like you are working in a factory off shore in a foreign country - you can be completely invisible so if you have little personality great place to be

    Cons

New York consumer group has experienced mass exodus of pseudo talented senior so-called executives - one would have to think the new leader running the consumer group has made a big impression on these folks - wow

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take it down several notches - pay more for talent - stop hiring your family - and stop hiring senior leaders who have had bad behavior issues at previous firms to have global roles

    Pros

Working with the best of the best. Exposure to big brands and big budgets. Hands on experience

    Cons

Work only with basics, no one cares to paint the bigger picture. You don't get any real business perspective as an intern - they just have you writing press releases
