I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

When they say it's an entrepreneurial environment...they mean it. It's a major company, but still scrappy like a start-up in many respects. The people, and the camaraderie among them, can't be beat. And the company treats their employees well and truly has a "family" feel to it...it's the rare sort of place where people still can, and want to, build long-term careers.

    Cons

Internal structure lacks clarity and seems to be constantly changing. The ability to be flexible and adaptable is commendable, but at some point, there has to be some consistency and commitment to a path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Give a long, hard look at fiscal structure throughout the organization. In an ideal world, we would adopt a set-up that ensures clients always get the best service, and thus continue to give us their business year after year. As it stands, certain aspects beget infighting and territorial behavior and ultimately do the company a huge disservice. 2) Help staff understand the business-side of account work, and Edelman, from an early level. 3) Continue to reward great work and ideas and embrace a strong work-life balance culture to retain the best staff.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Edelman is an outstanding company that values and cultivates leadership and skill building.

    Cons

As with any agency, client work can make it difficult to maintain a strong work/life balance.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Edelman supports risk taking and guided independence.

    Cons

Edelman has not yet cleared up the confusion between "digital" as a channel versus a practice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Edelman needs to figure out a way to reward cross-office client/revenue sharing.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Hands on learning experience
    Breadth of practice areas
Ability to cross collaborate with other offices
    Reputation
Transparent internal department and office transfers
    Colleagues and environment
    Entrepreneurial spirit
    Events

    Cons

Politics - but this is to be expected at any corporation
Favoritism - HUGE issue. Management cannot see what happens when they favor one colleague over another. Resentment from other colleagues
Salary - on the low end for experience level
    Management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not put direct reports into buckets; listen to your team and reviews. Train harder to become more effective. Great managers with the ability to manage and coach should uplift and motivate direct reports. There are some great managers here; retention starts with an employee who is happy.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people are amazing, smart, creative and invested in the success of the company. I am continually amazed at the level of work and creativity shown by my colleagues across the globe. Edelman is a place to build a career.

    Cons

At times, the offices can be competitive with each other and seem to be out of sync--especially when it comes to building the right teams, with the right expertise from across the network. Some of this can be attributed to the confidence and pride in one's individual "home" team, but can also come across as greedy and self-serving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's not always about the big wins, stay focused on the quality of the business and the ongoing service we provide to our clients. Also, reward those who work collaboratively and continue to incent teams to work cross-office. Continue to consider others beyond the "usual suspects" for the bigger and more interesting roles at Edelman.

I worked at Edelman as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

lots of opportunity to work on different products. I was able to move around and explore different sectors.

    Cons

I had about 8 different bosses in two different offices. Too much like "Office Space." Was there in the middle of the recession and they couldn't hold on to many people. Also, hours were ridiculous.

I worked at Edelman as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    Was allowed work from home

    Cons

Was hired in a contract to hire position. Immediate need was to help with a launch which was to happen in a few weeks. Soon after launch, I was summarily terminated with no reason despite the fact that just the prior day I was praised for my efforts.
