    Pros

    Great people to work with.

    Cons

If you do not fit the culture you will not make it long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Even though the company has grown, they need to try and keep the small company atmosphere.

I have been working at Edmund Optics full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Most of the people I work with are very professional and take pride in doing a good job.

    Cons

Nepotism at it's worst. Edmund relatives hold positions they are completely unqualified for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try playing less dodge ball and other pointless games with your employees to build up morale. Instead promote employees based on merit, rather than who you know or are related too.

I worked at Edmund Optics full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people who worked at the company we're probably the most friendliest people to work with.

    Cons

The company is run like an old boys club. People who know the business of the company keep the business to themselves. When times are not great the people in the know really do not inform their employees that the company really isn't doing well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please be more transparent with the employees. One moment the company was claiming "We made the most money we've ever made" then a few months later "we have to lay people off because we aren't making that much money"

I have been working at Edmund Optics

    Pros

Edmund Optics has the feel of a small, privately held, family business yet it has all of the advantages of a global footprint (manufacturing, distribution, and sales).

    Cons

There is a fine line between being nimble and responsive to the customer/market and chaos. Sometimes it feels like decisions are made on a whim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Short and long term goals should be made visible to all employees and communicated in a way that everyone can understand. Business performance metrics should be publicly visible and up to date.
