I worked at Education Corporation of America

    Pros

Helping working adults get a higher ed degree. Smart people. Great company. Senior management understands industry and the challenges involved in the for-profit educational space.

    Cons

Upper management is a good old boys club. My manager spent most of the time managing up and ignoring staff. Very little transparency among the mid and senior levels. The industry is forcing the company to reorganize continually to address new federal regulations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to be more transparent with staffers. They need to provide the vision for the company so that the employees know what they are working towards..

I worked at Education Corporation of America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers. Plenty of work needing to be done with less people to get it done and minimal pay. No pay increase structure.

    Cons

They will lay you off without notice so beware. Whatever you do, if you are considering about enrolling at Virginia College, Please take my advice and STAY AWAY. This school is just one Money Hungry School and does not care about you or your EDUCATION. Do not attend this college! Their sweet innocent personalities hide the money hungry beasts that lie within that awful facility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your dedicated, over worked staff.

    Pros

The only good thing about the company was being full time and not worrying about hours being cut to the bone.

    Cons

Favoritism, double standards, management does nothing about complaints but acts like they will handle it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen and react appropriately to formal complaints.

    Pros

Nice coworkers, but that's about it. Company spends a lot of money on nice office equipment, supplies like pens and highlighters...

    Cons

Horrible management who lies to your face about everything. Highly unethical treatment of employees. Wasteful spending. Unrealistic expectations. Huge turnover all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop lying to your employees and students. Treat them well.

    Worst company to work for

I have been working at Education Corporation of America

    Pros

It is a job. But so is being a rest stop bathroom attendant.

    Cons

Company cares only about its bottom line even if it at the expense of students. Corners are cut all over the place and management only cares about themselves. Leaders are arrogant and not genuine in the least bit. Management is also under qualified and over paid. Just like the students they enroll, it seems like all you need to work for them is a pulse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hope you all can sleep at night knowing that you are the most de-motivational people to work for.

I have been working at Education Corporation of America full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The CEO appears to be a straightforward person. He runs the organization like a publicly traded company with quarterly town halls. And holds teleconferences when major changes occur to ease employees' minds. He also really seems to care about the classroom experience for students.

    Cons

The corporate office frequently makes decsions without considering the impact at the campus level and then expect the campuses to outperform without the necessary resources to be successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask questions of other people besides those immediately under you. It's a bad time for career education in general. We will all undertand when changes need to occur. Just give us time to properly implement it.

I have been working at Education Corporation of America full-time

    Pros

Paid holidays. Paid vacations. Nice buildings. Lots of parking.

    Cons

    High turnover
Low employee morale. WE ARE UNHAPPY. Yes, many of us are looking elsewhere.
    No opportunities for growth
"Restructuring" meant firing good employees in order to save money. Remaining employees are now spread very thin.
Unprofessional atmosphere. Management is "holier than thou"
Underpaid compared to similar positions at competing schools(businesses)
    Unreasonable expectations by management
    No merit pay increases
    No performance bonuses
General attitude around the company is negative
Insurance costs were drastically increased and benefits were decreased
No real perks like other large companies in the area
Salaries are not competitive with other companies either.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
