    Good place to work overall

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits are great, most people are friendly, good work-life balance

ConsSome of the senior-level staff can be unapologetically condescending. Obviously if you have a higher stress job, you need to learn how to manage your stress without taking it out on junior-level staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease avoid having high-horse moments, because they are not fun to be around.

    Older Company

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSmart people, very flexible work schedule

ConsNo real direction for those starting out their career. Everyone higher up has a Ph.D and you can't do a whole lot if you don't have one. Office culture is very dull and nothing exciting ever happens. If you're looking to advance your skills and develop your career you should look elsewhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop training and learning opportunities.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Great colleagues, organization in transition

Training and Technical Assistance Specialist II (Former Employee)
    Newton, MA

ProsThoughtful, smart, professional colleagues. Interesting project work on important, timely topics. Opportunities for travel if working nationally or internationally.

ConsVery little room for advancement. Culture of constantly chasing money (needed in today's climate, but frustrating to have it be so pervasive).

Advice to Senior ManagementGet to know people entering the organization and see what will keep them engaged. EDC used to have a reputation of compensating well and having a nice culture supporting work/life balance. Riding on that wave may be over - consider what the EDC of the future can and should be - especially for staff who are invested in the success of the organization.

Smart and motivated employees; good benefits and work/life balance

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsYou get to work at a mission-driven organization with a lot of smart people. The work/life balance is great-- my supervisor and colleagues are always understanding if you need to work at home because of a sick child or need to leave early to catch a school play. Great collaborative environment and lovely building and space. High quality work is expected and completed, but in a supportive atmosphere.

ConsBecause projects rely on grant and contracts funding, you're not always sure about long-term job security. And not always clear what's happening on the development front to keep people funded. There could be more cross-division collaboration as many projects across divisions could learn from each other.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more information to employees about what specifically is being done or could be done to sustain or increase funding. Allow more opportunities for cross division collaboration.

    Strong Legacy, Interesting Transitions Currently

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWell developed brand, strong support for innovation, best work and talent is recognized and rewarded. Those who flourish tend to be both highly qualified and highly committed to the mission.

ConsSenior leadership currently in transition, potential for even better culture or for drift.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay closer attention to succession issues. Don't be too comfortable with legacy position, approaches to education are changing at warp speed.

    Interesting people, in transition

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsVery intelligent and diverse population; you won't feel out of place. Passionate about what they do, the company takes it's mission seriously. Nice place to work

ConsBecause of decreased government funding there have been layoffs and no increases. Can be a little old fashioned in their processes.

    Innovative, friendly work environment.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIt is a wonderful work environment. EDC cares more about the quality of its work than the bottom line which is refreshing.

ConsGrew organically therefore needs to ramp up on knowledge management.

    Great projects, committed staff

    Senior Management (Current Employee)

ProsOpportunity to work on innovative projects in education and health, domestically and internationally. High standards and good work/life balance. Great benefits, competitive salaries. Smart and mission driven colleagues.

ConsCurrent CEO is not well connected to the most innovative work. Insufficient diversity in funding sources creates strategic vulnerability.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork to eliminate disincentives for cross-divisional collaboration.
