Mission and Fellowship are great, organization is management challenged, turnover is constant and everyone is overworked

    Pros

Casual work environment with a mission you can get behind. Excellent results on the program side. The Fellowship experience is really valuable.

    Cons

Under qualified management, constant turnover, three times as much work as is reasonable, low pay (although probably comparable to other non-profits).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the cycle of constant turnover: Current work load takes a 70+ hour work week plus travel; staff up where needed; don't increase goals/targets until something is working smoothly. Decrease internal meetings which literally take up a full 8 hours a day, and give more recognition of work that is being done by employees.

    Pros

    National company
    Very young, driven employees
Great cause, easy to get motivated
The company is expanding very quickly so there is plenty of mobility

    Cons

lack of solid structure in the company
still relatively small groups in many of the offices.
company is bigger than they know how to handle
everyone in the company is needed to keep up with scale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Either hire more aggresively to keep up with the huge applicant pools, or consider downsizing the size of programs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Continue the renewed focus on internal human capital

Current Employee - Intern in Boston, MA

    Pros

The people are absolutely amazing: friendly, relaxed, helpful, and always willing to answer any questions or offer guidance! If you're interested in education or non-profit work, this is a great opportunity for both professional and personal growth. Super relaxed and flexible in terms of hours, which makes it perfect for the academic year if you're in college.

    Cons

It's a non-profit, so there aren't too many opportunities for rigorous, challenging work as an intern and the compensation is middle-of-the-road.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I never got to interact with upper management since they're not located in Boston, but I have no suggestions.
