I have been working at Educational Testing Service as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The culture is very relaxed. if you like to show up to work and do your job with no hassles this is the spot for you

    Cons

The pay could be better but its not terrible. the office culture could be a little warmer but a lot of people temp there so i can understand the stranger like feel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more opportunities for the emmployees to come together as a team. if you bring people together towards a common goal behind one another the limits are endless for this staff

I worked at Educational Testing Service full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

ETS is a good company if you work in a good department headed by a reasonable leader with traditional great American values.

    Cons

Obviously diversity has some pros. However, American values such as the importance of family life, health, personal lives can be disrespected when you have a foreign raised boss. Department had too many boses. There was a huge communication gap. Very difficult to understand. Work was unecessary, boring, and unequally divided. Some co workers had little to do while some seemed busy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ex. Director should be used by VP's for high level projects. Instead of being involved on petty spreadsheets and micro management they could add more value by getting involved with upper mgmt valuable type of work. Investigate the effectiveness of having an Ex Dir and Mgrs doing the same work. Maybe 1 Mgr per 10 people like most companies. VP should take control and advise to not take time from employee's dinner table for frivolous issues and respect their time off. Maybe new employees will stay longer in a fair and less controlling environment.

Seems to have great benefits. Employees have security. New testing product that allows a segment of society to be treated like human beings again - HiSET

    Cons

Too soon to give an in depth opinion

I worked at Educational Testing Service full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You feel excited, and happy to have met your expectations, and your work is being delivered.

    Cons

There is a lot of pressure to complete task before deadline, however, there is always a sense of accomplishment when assignment is completed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although certain jobs are performed under pressure, workers who perform well should be acknowledged, because it gives them incentives to work harder.

I worked at Educational Testing Service as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Providing you can become permanent, benefits are outstanding. On the job training is provided and required to work in many positions there.

    Cons

Most middle range positions are entered through temp agencies, which can last for years before becoming permanent. over and under staffing is common through out the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to publicly and socially label temps as temps.

I worked at Educational Testing Service full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Convenient location. Most Vp's are caring.

    Cons

Some depts have better fair management than others. Should be easy to take day off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

VP's should make sure Executive Director does not give big awards and promotions to the same guy but those who deserve.

Adecco- Lots of micro-managing and no room for growth.

I have been working at Educational Testing Service full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I was hired through Adecco. They pay on time and every week. Some people are friendly. I'm lucky to have a nice department but there are individuals that ruin the nice experience. It's a good place to work if you can't find a job because they hire absolutely everyone. Of course, there are downsides to this as well.

I would recommend this to a friend as a last resort but only that.

    Cons

Low salary -- overworked and underpaid, no room for growth, corrupt inner-hiring system (people hire friends rather than who would do the job properly), talent is not recognized. Very frustrating when you are more intelligent than your boss. Many people at the Ewing office, at least, are not the brightest. Don't work here if you want to be challenged -- it's just repetitive busywork every day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people who would do the job properly, not just people who are your friends. Reward those who deserve it and terminate those that need to be fired.

I have been working at Educational Testing Service part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

work from home (online); most scoring leaders (not content scoring leaders) are competent and pleasant to work with; can get fair amount of hours for a part-time job

    Cons

content scoring leaders and administration are incompetent and rude-- more concerned with ego than accuracy/fairness; constant buck-passing by content scoring leaders and administration; "don't bother me" management style; little monitoring of supervisors, so you need to either suck it up and focus on the few pros of the position, or look elsewhere for part-time positions (there are other companies-- Pearson, McGraw Hill, etc.-- who are finally in competition with ETS); ETS makes enormous earnings and their "not-for-profit" status has been ridiculed by more than one analyzing organization

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

most empires fall eventually; thankfully ETS is finally getting some competition

I have been working at Educational Testing Service full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

ETS is a great company to work for. The corporate culture is very good. They encourage their employees to keep advancing their education by paying for continuing education. The benefits are comparable to other large corporations. All new employees get a three-week vacation after 1 year of employment. Therere are opportunities to advance your career and it is encouraged. People and management are friendly and courteous.

    Cons

I'm sure there are some, but I have not had a negative experience to-date. I've been working here for almost 3 years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Good place to work, avg salary and benefits.

    Cons

The Rosedale location is better if u want are educated, ambitious, driven and want to continually move ahead in your career. You can get away with meeting just the status quo at the Ewing location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize those who have something to offer and promote those who truly deserve it.
