    Value oriented medical device company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCEO Mike Mussallem is a leading edge thinker. "Life is now" is the company motto and taken to heart for patients.

Cons"Life is now" is not always applied to employees. The corporate culture has shifted as the company has grown from a small start-up to a corporate power house.

    – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Highly motivated company, top of the line products.

    THV (Former Employee)
    Draper, UT

ProsEdwards is a great, solid company to work for. They are very driven and focused on success. There are some amazingly talented people working for Edwards, which is why they lead in innovative products. Everybody's friendly and the environment is VERY diverse, even for Utah. The opportunities to grow and learn in your career field are abundant at Edwards. You will assuridly gain valuable skills by working here

ConsBecause Edwards is so highly driven, the work environment can be very stressful, engineers working less than 50 hours a week are considered slackers. Everything is a rush and an emergency, and everyone is stretched thin. Getting promoted is nearly impossible, even if you've been doing the workload of 3 people at a level 2 steps above your pay grade for the last 3 years, it's still not enough to justify a promotion in their eyes. They use outdated technology to supplement their outdated processes.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay current with new technology available, this could only help you. Don't be too stingy with promotions, this is causing you to lose amazing, valuable talent. Don't stretch your employees too thin.

Great place for a recent grad or new hire to gain experience in a cGMP/regulated environment

    QE1 (Current Employee)
    Draper, UT

ProsGood training and mentoring for new hires
Great, friendly people and open, approachable environment
    Good facilities and overall atmosphere
    Great community involvement and interaction
    Work-life balance is supported
Good sense of purpose and production

ConsIt is a regulated (FDA, Euro/Japan Health boards) so a lot of regulations and requirements, which may seem excessive, are needed and must be followed. It makes working more difficult, but ensures that everything is done correctly (or at least verified that it means a standard). Sometimes the goals of projects seem overly tedious.

Need to Treat Employees Better & Focus on Compliance

    Quality (Former Employee)
    Draper, UT

ProsEdwards is a good company to learn the basics of cGMP compliance. Health benefits are good.

ConsCompany lacks sound direction from management. Too many ego-driven directors and above. Management talks a good talk but doesn't back their talk with sound decisions. Office culture is too political. Too much turnover at Operations and Engineering management.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement in a Draper is clueless to the day-to-day struggles of employees. Production workers are not given the opportunity to maintain a fair work/life balance. Meeting numbers and keeping costs down are the main focus. Development opportunities are nonexistent and honest feedback is not given nor encouraged. The company's ethics do not align with employees that want to make correct decisions. Develop employees and embrace a culture of allowing senior employees to train and mentor the less experienced! Management that thrives on the "one mistake and you're fired" mentality is toxic to the business.

Great place to learn about heart valves

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Irvine, CA

ProsI enjoyed working with very friendly and talented people. There is a wealth of information here for people that want to continue learning and there are great opportunities for people that want to become leaders.

ConsToo much focus on short term needs results in wasted efforts many extra hours on weekends. Taking personal time for vacation, or to care for a family member or even for a new baby seems to negatively impact your opportunities for advancement.

    Short-term Focus

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWork-life balance, sharp people in Engineering.

ConsShort-term focus, company can't compete on price with competition.
Not enough investment during commercialization with the emphasis being on minimizing up-front tooling/automation costs. Purchased piece part prices and labor content are too high.

Advice to Senior ManagementPosition the company to compete on price; in other words, develop and validate production processes before commercial release with less focus on long-term device price.

Great experience but highly dependent on your direct manager

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Irvine, CA

ProsI had an overall positive experience at Edwards, largely due to my direct manager who was a great mentor, worked hard, and supported me throughout my time. The company has a great work/life culture in the Finance department and encourages employees to continuously develop through training and online courses.

ConsThe politics within higher management and the lack of support for lower level employees. Directors and VPs are not in tuned with what is going on with the more junior level folks, often only concerned with their own career trajectory. It was frustrating that more senior level employees often worked less than junior level employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe in tune with your junior staff. Set a better example of leading, working hard, and putting in the effort in everything you do.

    ConsManagement seems to have favorites.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive others a chance than staying with the comfort zone.

Very disappointing, Ultimate Staffing recruiters are not honest in their claims.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people I was working with were (other laborers) very friendly. I enjoyed most of my fellow employees, there's always a few who are harder to interact with, but for the most part, very nice people.

ConsManagement appears to be totally and completely profit driven. Concerns and suggestions from employees were either ignored or just shot down. VERY rigorous requirements on production speeds after a very short training period.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the concerns and suggestions of your employees. These people are working VERY hard and want to help make this company a success, but it can be extremely demoralizing to feel that your input falls on deaf ears and that your well-being comes in a far second to profitability.
