I worked at El Camino College

    Pros

There are many fantastic professors and professionals who care about the school, its employees and the students. You can easily get connected and develop relationships with these people, join the fun and friendly culture and have a support network if you need it. The administration is not quite as bad as its reputation, once you get to know the right people you can navigate just fine.

    Cons

There are a few higher up individuals who are dishonest and I have seen them use their power to be cunning and retaliatory, which frightened me (although no such action was ever taken against me). I did visit HR to be safe. Sorry to say there is a "good 'ol boys club", and rumors galore that distort people's names. Beware also of the angry activists on campus! Their frustration is founded on serious grievances, but their reactions are sometimes taken to the extreme. Do not join this crowd, don't join the gossip, and don't take sides! Also, there are some people who are unprofessional and surprisingly unqualified for the job, but they have tenure. They can be potentially frustrating to deal with when trying to get work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please - stop lying. Your employees all know when you're being dishonest. It detracts from the community, weakens trust, and all the angry gossip about your dishonesty lessens productivity.

I worked at El Camino College part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great deal of independence in deciding how to teach courses. The pay rate is exceptional. There was a degree of mentoring for new part-time faculty.

    Cons

Lack of cohesiveness among the faculty. There was also a lack of morale among the part-time faculty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Solicit more input from the part-time faculty. Provide more resources for teaching for the part-time faculty. Provide health benefits, which may be helpful.

I worked at El Camino College part-time

    Pros

It is a great place to study disciplines regarding science or engineering. From my experience, most of the math, physics, and computer science teachers are really good. I highly recommend working as a tutor.

    Cons

The bad thing about working here as a student is the pay. From what I know, all of the jobs that you get as a student will be more minimum wage.

Having the opportunity to teach students is always a joy. At this school, I had the opportunity to interact with students and faculties.

    Cons

The main challenges with working there is dealing with your superiors, someday's they just get under the skin.

I worked at El Camino College part-time

    Pros

I enjoyed immensely having this as my first official job. The employees were super friendly and the atmosphere was laid back and fun, even during rush times.

    Cons

I wish they would give more opportunities to part-timers, and would keep workers longer than the beginning of the semester.
