Awesome place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at El Camino College part-time for more than 5 years

ProsHaving the opportunity to teach students is always a joy. At this school, I had the opportunity to interact with students and faculties.

ConsThe main challenges with working there is dealing with your superiors, someday's they just get under the skin.

Great experience

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at El Camino College part-time

ProsI enjoyed immensely having this as my first official job. The employees were super friendly and the atmosphere was laid back and fun, even during rush times.

ConsI wish they would give more opportunities to part-timers, and would keep workers longer than the beginning of the semester.

Good place to work, nice people

Writing Tutor (Former Employee)
Torrance, CA

I worked at El Camino College part-time for less than a year

ProsParking permit for employees, nice people to work with. My supervisor was always asking me if there's anything I wanted to talk about. Overall a pleasant experience.

ConsThe nature of my job sometimes required a huge gap between working hours. For example, sometimes I had an early morning class to tutor and my next one was around 3pm. But that was part of the job.

Tutor (Current Employee)
Torrance, CA

I have been working at El Camino College part-time for more than 5 years

ProsStress free, friendly students and co-workers, good work schedule, wonderful boss, free staff parking permit

ConsLow Pay and no benefits for casual workers--I've worked at the college for over five years and have not received a raise.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees who work part time and have bachelor degrees should receive more pay and benefits.

Pretty Much Ok

Learning Resource Assistant (Former Employee)
Torrance, CA

I worked at El Camino College as an intern for more than 3 years

ProsWorking with students and helping them out was very rewarding, you develop your own special unique relationship with each one semester after semester until they graduate. It is a nice feel knowing that you played a part in contributing to their success there. I would recommend this to a person who can ignore all the upper management bull and work for the enjoyment of helping someone succeed and love to work in an educational setting.

ConsIt is hard working with people who have shared decades there and are set in their ways. I mean there is a great number of employees there that are wonderful to work around nice and truly want to help students succeed. As for the hire ups, well I can't say too much about them...just in my opinion I feel they have more responsibility, yes, for the amount of money they are getting paid but I feel they are disconnected or can not relate to the students because they rather hide behind their desk.

Great people and advisers seeking to help you teach

Supplementary Information Coach (Current Employee)
Torrance, CA

I have been working at El Camino College part-time for less than a year

ProsGreat experience to help you learn how to teach others. Management is very supportive and willing to help you out. Lots of flexibility in how you teach and curriculum

ConsWas discouraged from doing problem sets, rather we had to make up questions. I felt that reviewing problems sets from the teacher would give students a better understanding and feel for what problems would be like on exams and future problem sets.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet us do problem sets and go over exams etc.
