    Advice to Management

    Pros

Strong Community Involvement. Good long term possibilities. Considered one of best employers in area.

    Cons

Some employees, hired long ago, want to cling to "how it was".

    Advice to Management

Provide a more clear and clean way for employees to register complaints against direct management...without the information being provided back to person the employee is filing against.

    Pros

Salaries based on industry, not area. Since it is the only electric company in the area it is a safe and stable job.

    Cons

Not open to people on work visas. Some people were not very qualificated, not very based on merits but on seniority.

    Advice to Management

El Paso Electric could benefit from hiring people with work visas, there are a lot of talented people in UTEP who are from other countries.

I have been working at El Paso Electric

    Pros

The company is very stable. Aside from a few weather related hiccups the company is very stable. If stability and security is what you're looking for this is the place to be.

    Cons

The company has too many layers of management. This leads to inefficiencies that arise from a deficiency of use of such management. The ability of moving up the latter is very limiting as well. It seems as if management only hires their friends for many positions. The company is also unwilling to change outdated business processes. Management hinders innovation in the workplace by abiding to the philosophy of "if it's not broken why fix it" when in reality there are many parts of the company you can improve.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. There is a rather large disconnect from your frontline up to the managerial positions.

    Pros

Stability is great. Benefits and salary are very good.

    Cons

Top heavy in upper management for such a small company. There are VP's with only two employees under them!

    Advice to Management

Take a look at middle to upper management staff. It is very top heavy! Some of the managers are still using the old "union vs management" mentality. The outlook of the company is positive as the CEO genuinely cares about the employees.

    Cons

Needs to inspire its employees more, they need better managers and more innovation, try to avoid the routine. Boring offices

    Advice to Management

Try to avoid routines for employees and go more towards green energy.

    Pros

Because it's a small company, one can gain a variety of experience while working in the same position. Senior management is accessible and top-down communication is very good most of the time. Employees are very dedicated and are willing to go above and beyond normal duties. Employees are routinely recognized for good performance.

    Cons

Some employees work a lot of overtime due to workload caused by understaffing. Hourly personnel are good with it because of the OT, and most salaried people don't mind either because mangement is flexible when it comes time for vacation and personal time off, however, too much for too long gets old.

    Advice to Management

If you invest in hiring more people it may free up your management to implement innovative ideas to improve productivity which may reduce costs. You will also be better prepared to address the aging workforce issue.

  11. It was a good experience, but there is a lack of quality of life from the employees.

    Pros

Excellent company, very high salaries, respect and friendly.

    Cons

There is the need to emphasize in the quality of life of the employees. Most of them live to work, and this is not what life is for.

    Advice to Management

Take more care of your interns, and keep having internships they are very helpful.
