    Challenging but interesting workplace

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Mountain View, CA

Pros- Great work-life balance (especially those work from home Wednesdays)
    - Opportunities to work on projects with cross functional teams - managers are pretty open to allowing participation just as long as your main job duties are performed
    - Still has a startup essence (i.e., you are expected to take on various responsibilities even if it doesn't fit under your position) where you get to wear different hats and learn on the job
    - Transparent upper management - we have weekly metrics meetings and monthly all-hands meetings where upper management has the opportunity to share hard numbers and expresses how they feel the company is doing

Cons- HR hasn't done much to merge the two company cultures (there are still a strong presence of two separate cultures)
    - There is no clear route for advancement

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider career advancement opportunities to existing employees prior to looking at external candidates.

    Best job I've ever had

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Redwood City, CA

ProsThe work is endlessly interesting. We're actually changing how people work, and in turn how they live.
You get to have an impact on something really meaningful: work and people's livelihoods
We're in a high-growth market and have barely scratched the surface.
    People are really smart.
People are very team-oriented and collaborative.

ConsSince the merger between Elance and oDesk, it does feel like a bigger company (in fact, it is)

    Nice people fun environment.

Intern (Former Employee) Mountain View, CA

ProsPeople are very nice. CEO is always around and accessible. Company-wide meetings allow anyone to express their complaints.

ConsNot as many perks as other startups when I was there. Interesting mix of people. Upper level hierarchy is interesting.

    Great Company in Transition

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsPeople really care about their job here, and are generally motivated by the fact that we are creating job opportunities all over the world outside of gender, ethnicity, location, appearances, and all that. Free lunch three times a week plus a work from home day doesn't hurt either.

ConsThe merge has been hard on culture, there hasn't been enough effort made to blend the two companies, but I have faith things will work out.

Promoting learning and career growth opportunity for everyone

Associate (Former Employee) Mountain View, CA

ProsThe best part about Elance-oDesk is the company culture. My co-workers are not just my peers but also some of my close friends. Having an open culture where everyone is friendly and working for the same coming goal makes it easy to come to work everyday and really enjoy what you do. On top of that, you get to work from home every Wednesday! At Elance-oDesk, we truly believe in our mission; therefore we always put ourselves into the shoes of our customers to get a true understanding of our product. Overall, working at Elance-oDesk has truly given me a lifetime of learning opportunities!

ConsThe only con for me would be the long commute but they offer great commute perks and work from home days to offset that!

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep showing the amazing company culture!

    Non-Caring.

ProsYou work from home and you work with some great people.

ConsYou get nothing working for them. No benefits, sick time, vacation time, flexibility you normally get with a work from home job, and you are absolutely replaceable.

Advice to Senior ManagementCare more about the people you employ and maybe they will work harder for you.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
