I have been working at Elanco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

A positive environment, the best people in the industry who are focused on a bigger cause, feeding the world. Genuine and authentic people are what attracted me to this company and keep me here.

    Cons

Driven, hard working people can get burnt out. We put our head down and work harder when needed and sometimes sacrifice balance in our lives.

I have been working at Elanco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is continuing to grow which makes for a challenging, but rewarding workplace.

    Cons

Once in position it's hard to move, a minimum of 3 years in a current position before being considered for another more suited for skill set is discouraging. Eliminating the educational benefits/reimbursement caused many talented young people to leave the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Return the educational benefit to people that make a difference in the company. Education grows a company's base and breeds motivation to stay with a company. Replacing an employee is a more costly expense than tuition.

I have been working at Elanco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Although perks are average, it has great work-life balance, great people to work with. Small company atmosphere. Very resourceful.

    Cons

Although recent acquisitions provide more career opportunities, people movement is equivalent to its large parent pharmaceutical company. Some departments are better at employee recognition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain your earlier "small" culture. The acquisitions will make you big, strong and profitable but you are loosing that personal touch.

I have been working at Elanco full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great "entrepreneurial" and open/transparent culture. Solid core visible (lived-out) values of Respect for People, Integrity, & Excellence. A compelling mission & cause: food and companionship enriching life. No Performance Ratings. Focus on Development. Business growth & career opportunities. Aquiring other companies & technologies that complement existing business model & product portfolio. Most recent acquisition (Novartis Animal Health) will effectively result in 1.5x growth in revenue and employee population. Excellent & approachable senior leadership.

    Cons

As size grows, culture is changing, and experiencing "growing-up" (becoming a "big-boy company" pains). In some ways good (i.e. more robust business processes); in some ways maybe not so good (i.e. more big-pharma-esque; more bureaucracy; less nimble). Supports "work-life balance" but operates with very lean staff (organization undersized; jobs oversized) so W-L balance difficult to realize in some areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Successfully grow big (deliver more value to customers) while staying culturally small (maintain openness, trust, creativity, innovation) without becoming burdened with big-organization politics and bureaucracy). Create a more fun workplace.

I have been working at Elanco full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Future outlook is positive - growth of product sales and potential site expansion opportunities
Relatively small site so offers opportunities for developing strong working relationships with coworkers and getting involved in a broad range of activities/job experiences
Good working conditions - very focused on worker safety, clean, no potential for exposure to harmful chemicals or conditions
Technical expertise of all types is strongly valued - engineering, regulatory, chemistry, biology

    Cons

Non operator positions require 24/7 support - results in taking computers home, working long hours or nights/weekends at times, etc
Site has tendancy to overcommit/ is poor at prioritizing large efforts - with limited site resources this results in some groups being pulled in too many directions or working long hours at times
Despite small size of the site, corporate and regulatory requirements result in slow rate of implementing change with many levels of approvals and reviews

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work more on pushing decisions down as far as possible
Lead more and manage less, spend more time on developing, valuing, and leveraging relationships with site employees to take full advantage of their skills and abilities
