I have been working at ElasticBox

    Pros

Fast-paced workplace, meetings are short and to the point, things get done. That's why we have such a cool product.
Very smart, competent and passionate colleagues. Best group of people I've had the pleasure of working with.
Plenty of opportunities to learn and start contributing immediately.

    Cons

    No 401K plan as yet

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We're in a challenging and cluttered space to begin with and we're growing constantly. It is important to reiterate the company vision frequently and consistently so everyone gets it.

    Pros

Good idea... but long since surpassed by open source. It's basically useless now, and gets even more redundant as the days go by.

    Cons

I knew the CEO personally even before this , from a long time ago. He was a liar then and he's a liar now. I should never have quit by secure job to join this company.
Terrible management, terrible leadership, no vision at all.
So many layoffs, targets change suddenly, good people have long since left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Steady the ship , dont lie , be honest with your customers and employeed.

Great colleagues, all have since left the company but still keep in touch.

    Cons

CEO is the biggest habitual liar I've met, this is one of those places where you dread going to work.

    I worked at ElasticBox

    Pros

    -In San Francisco
    -Decent insurance
    -Partially cover gym membership

    Cons

    -Leadership is horrible
    -Micromanagement
    -Employees are not appreciated
-Expected to work whenever leadership wants you to work
-Unlimited vacation is a lie (no one wants you to leave)
    -Layoffs regular
-B/c of layoffs no real team culture
-More importance is laid on Spanish team that american team
    -No transparency in the company
-You know there's a problem when many of the original team is gone and many of the new hires don't make it much further than a year if at all

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop laying off everyone and try and build a good team with a good culture

    Pros

The only pro is the product.

    Cons

The CEO is a habitual liar and tends to mislead everyone of his employees. The company has also lied to its employees about stock options. And various lawsuit against management keep aprising - during my time there I felt uncomfortable as a female employee. This company has no outlook and epitomized the worst start up ever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of your CEO, and change you attitude towards your employees. You haven't built anything that amazing yet. More companies are defined by their culture and people than product alone. If you aren't going to change - then sharpen your resumes - and I hope you end up in jobs where you are treated similarly. Because Karma ....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at ElasticBox full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

None for SF. Better if you are engineer in Spain buffered from founders.

    Cons

Founders have no concept of leadership and management. There is no vision no strategy. Founders have contradictory ideas making it hard to understand who is really in charge. Culture is negative with bad morale. No scalable model for sales growth or support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Investors have limited window. Elasticbox value keeps diminishing. Space is highly competitive and IT can build core functionality with mature open source software in 3-6 months with a couple of sr. DevOps folks.

I worked at ElasticBox full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Engineers - Some really skilled engineers that are really trying to build a good product, although many have since departed

The Space - if they could get the product to work it could add some value. DevOps is an exciting area of innovation, that innovation just isn't happening at ElasticBox.

    Cons

The founders seem to live in a parallel universe where it is OK to completely lie to employees and potential customers. I've never seen such a culture of fear and blame, where employees have no authority, but complete responsibility and the two founders each run the show independently and often contradict each other leaving the employee at a loss as to what to do. There have been multiple rounds of layoffs and multiple complaints filed against the CEO so morale is very low - with all the other great Devops companies out there, I would definitely recommend you look elsewhere. Don't make the same mistake I did

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice would be to the board - get rid of the founders and sell the product for scrap. It is funny how quickly word gets around, already when I tell people i worked at ElasticBox, the response is usually "Sorry to hear that"

I worked at ElasticBox full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good technologies, smart /nice employees, food catered.

    Cons

Horrible work culture (work culture does not exist).
Founders are from another planet, they lie, threaten, give no authority but all the responsibility. No wonder this company is like a revolving door and everybody who gets in, gets out. The only employees that stay with ElasticBox are the ones in Madrid, Spain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sorry but nothing you can do will help save this company

I have been working at ElasticBox full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

-Awesome employees that are smart and hardworking and also fun on a personal level
-Good benefits like health, partial coverage of gym membership and cell phone plan, and Whole Foods lunch
    -Interesting and competitive space

    Cons

May as well be called the "Real Housewives of ElasticBox"

-Office culture = all work, no play
    -Micromanagement is rampant
-No concept of personal growth. Senior management does not view employees as people; they undervalue employees and give them a false sense of ownership and empowerment while simultaneously outwardly deeming them as incompetent.
-Senior management does not take feedback, sets unrealistic expectations, never gives positive reinforcement, is always ready to criticize
-Time is spent on menial things rather than on important tasks that will actually move the company forward. Consequently, the real potential of talented employees is never tapped.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership should have been replaced long ago.
