Current Employee – been working at Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) full-time
Pros – Trusted and recognized brand that provides a great platform to stand on. 40+ year history of knowledge to draw from. Continuous learning experience from some of the best experts in fields related to electricity production, consumption and use
Cons – Shares the culture of its utility members - conservative by nature. Often focused on tactical innovation to solve specific problems rather than big "strategic" ideas.

Pros – Work with top technical people
Access to great technical information/reports
Nice buildings and offices
Exposure to contacts throughout Utility Industry
Great 401k employer contribution
Closed last week of year in addition to regular vacation
Cons – Very political
Very inexperienced sr management in most positions except technical roles
Hire most sr managers from outside limits advancement
More focused on internal numbers/reports than customers results
Expected to raise own funds
Many inconsistent or nonexistent policies for operational matters
Evaluation of employee worth very subjective and not consistent
Advice to Senior Management – Review the company goals and mission. Don't expect technical experts to be good at business operations. Bring back leadership training that was emphasized under previous management. Hire a consultant to teach management team how to communicate. ( not an image consultant) Communicate company changes , good or bad, to employees and you may get some real support when people understand what is going on or maybe even a good idea.

Pros – A great company to work with. A very innovative place to work that is pretty dynamic in types of work. Has been one of my favorite companies to work for.
Cons – The biggest downside I have found to EPRI is at times there can be a lack of information being communicated to different areas.
Advice to Senior Management – You are doing a pretty great job. Overall the best company I've worked for. I really like the training sessions and technical updates.

Current Employee – been working at Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
Pros – Great people with better people skills than you would expect from a technical company.
A culture that minimizes status differences between people in different positions.
A very good place for young and mid-career women engineers.
Opportunities for domestic and international travel.
Good salaries and benefits.
Cons – Technical staff are responsible for their own fundraising and projects -- not a lot of teamwork.
Not a very social environment.
Heavy travel is commonly required.
Management appears terrified of giving technical staff a voice, except under very controlled conditions . There is no employee-run newsletter, no posting personal items on bulletin boards, email broadcast messages not allowed.
Policies are increasingly set by marketing rather than technical experts.
Advice to Senior Management – Become less risk-averse.
Treat your employees as partners, not potential adversaries.
Senior management should mingle more.
