Pros
Large organisation, resources available to undertake varierty of tasks and work patterns able to undertake large projects.
Cons
Maybe too large and promotion is not easy or the efforts were recognised enough.
Advice to Senior Management
Look after your best staff otherwise mediocre staff will drag the company down.
Pros
You had a flexible work schedule and the environment was clean to work in. There was also an onsight cafeteria which is definitely a plus.
Cons
Management seemed clueless at times as to the actual job you were doing. It was amazing that these people were going to evaluate your performance and yet had no experience as to the job you were doing. SIMPLY AMAZING!!!
Advice to Senior Management
The lack of communication was definitely a big problem. Also, there seemed to be a lack of standardization for processing procedures. There needs to be a training program other than on the job training fly by the seat of your pants training.
Pros
lots of parking, spacious working spaces
Cons
depressing work environment, lazy unmotivated people
Pros
time between work and personal life is well balanced
Cons
has low visibility in advancing one's career path in EDS, now is HP consulting division
Advice to Senior Management
no
Pros
Collaborative, professional, stuffed to the gunnels with good people
Cons
Their compensation planning was a shockingly complex process and achieving parity across grades was slow, painful and ultimately futile.
Advice to Senior Management
Ensure you reward fairly rather than to those who shout loudest.
Pros
You could turn up and leave when you wanted to. They pay you.
Cons
Everything else. They bully, they manage everything by spreadsheets, think Project Managers just need to wear a suit to qualify, they bully some more. Oh and they bully.
e.g. a manager kept ringing the company mobile I had, despite me being sat at my desk next to a landline. I suggested the landline as the only times I was away were: toilet breaks, lunch or in the server room doing work. He failed to agree and kept the ringing mobile.
Advice to Senior Management
Grow a backbone and grow up (stop bullying). PS: HP bought them after I left, so HP sack the bullies not the techies.
Pros
The EDS culture allows individuals to respect their work and personal lives. The company stands by people who are committed and provides excellent career path and compensation. A lot of top managers are technical enough to understand the job that needed to be done.
Cons
Some top managements weren't as qualified. There was also some amount of communication breakdown especially when there was a transition (merging, separating, buying, selling of accounts and human resources) but that's understandable.
Advice to Senior Management
Leaderships at EDS should try to acquire the MBA degree. A lot of them are technical but may lack in leadership skills.
Pros
good place to be exposed to different and latest technologies
Cons
cut throught approach to reduction of force
Advice to Senior Management
go screw yourselves
Pros
Hours were flexible and company was lenient on individuals finishing work but did not necessarily have to be between the hours of 8-5
Cons
pay is low and no bonuses. Chance of promotion was low. Now that EDS was bought out by HP...it's is worse.
Advice to Senior Management
pay people what they are worth to help employee morale
Pros
- Well known brand - now part of HP
- Good work life balance
- Good pay (that has changed since HP acquisition)
Cons
- Too much red tape within the company
- Pockets and pockets of ineffective leadership
