Pros
Good benefits, good pay, professional co-workers
Cons
work load per employee, constant headcount reductions
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your employees on the front line better
Pros
Excellent health insurance options, credit union membership
Cons
There was an awful lot of gossip regarding many of the females in the department while I was at EDS. It seemed as if almost every woman was rumored to be fast until she could somehow prove otherwise. I remember one woman who joined from another department said to me, "You've probably heard a lot of rumors about me." I replied, "I make up my own mind about people." She was grateful for that.
Pros
Ability to work remotely promoted good home/work blance
Cons
Continual Downsizing made security non-existent
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication
Pros
Good food that they serve for lunch.
Cons
Boss is not helpful to employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Work on how you treat people
Pros
Probably, training opportunities were better than most companies. My expereince with job reviews is that it was a waste of my time.
Cons
Unrealistic demands on working environment. EDS management would sign contracts that a sane person would run away from. Maybe with HP management things may change.
Advice to Senior Management
EDS/HPmanagement should sit down and work with the technicians that are expected to do the job. This would give EDS/HP management a realistic idea if the terms of the contract are doable.
Pros
Interesting Work Environment, Excellent Support Teams from the Systems & Hardware Groups. Team Feeling of accomplishments.
Cons
Very difficult to get promoted without leaving current account, Permanent Salary takes a long time to build to industry standards due to temporary yearly bonus possibility.
Advice to Senior Management
Since EDS became a non entity America based employees are treated as commodities to be tolerated at the least salary level they can be kept at.
Pros
It was a paycheck, and I wasn't homeless because of it.
Otherwise, it was a sit-down desk job, which beats fast food. I worked 3rd shift and did not have much to do, so management allowed me to do homework (I was a college student at the time).
Cons
Worked their for over a year as a contractor and never received a full-time offer of employment from EDS, all while other employees who had been there half the time I had got hired on with benefits. Seemed vastly unfair.
Also, good luck getting time off. They say you have "vacation", but when you want to take that vacation time, they tell you that time is "at their discretion". Ridiculous. If you do get time off approved, you have to find a coworker who is willing to work your shift. Good luck with that as well. It's laughable.
Pay sucks. I got paid only $1 above minimum wage for a job that wanted to you work horrible hours (including EVERY weekend), memorize every technical detail for 5 different customers, and managers treated you like dirt. I had a manager tell me I looked like a "deer in the headlights" when I asked her a question...who wants to come to work to be belittled?
Advice to Senior Management
I would advise management to hire more professional, skilled leaders. A company is nothing without its people, and center managers should realize this. Also, a decent living wage wouldn't hurt, either.
Pros
EDS is great if there is a family problem and you need assistance. There are many instances where the company has helped a team member through a crisis.
Cons
Expectations that family will come second after work. Management has no problem with employees working nights, weekends, etc with no thought of the employees mental or physical health.
Advice to Senior Management
Open your eyes and plan better. Unahppy employees do not tend to perform well. Encouragement and appreciation goes a long way.
Pros
Good exposure to many disciplines and opportunities.
Cons
Focus on cost containment and margins.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in growning markets and offerings.
Pros
- The people there are very nice.
Cons
- Very poor work life balance
- Doing 5 people's jobs when only getting paid for one
- Did not train at all when you are first hired or after.
- No employee orientation when you are first hired.
- No opportunity for career advancement and growth.
- Work overtime a lot on nights and weekends.
- Very stressful work enviornment.
- Paychecks kept decreasing.
- They shove something at you to complete when you are not trained at all on the subject.
- They fire people for no reason at all. I have seen it happen to a few people that I worked with.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at my cons and improve on all of them.
