Pros
Opportunities span the full range of the IT spectrum, from mainframe to embedded systems
Cons
Multiple work force reductions have demoralized the work force
Advice to Senior Management
Bring stability to the work force
Pros
The atmosphere is professional but relaxed, allowing a person to meet the requirements to be successful
Cons
There was a lot of turn around in personal at one time, at one point there as not enough and then it was over crowded.
Advice to Senior Management
the manager allows the employees to take part in decision-making: therefore everything is agreed by the majority. The communication is extensive in both directions (from employees to leaders and vice-versa). This style can be particularly useful when complex decisions need to be made that require a range of specialist skills: for example, when a new ICT system needs to be put in place, and the upper management of the business is computer-illiterate. From the overall business's point of view, job satisfaction and quality of work will improve. However, the decision-making process is severely slowed down, and the need of a consensus may avoid taking the 'best' decision for the
Pros
Ability to learn multiple technologies....
Cons
Subjective performance reviews, raises and bonuses were inconsistent across accounts. Pay for performance policy which never worked.
Advice to Senior Management
Create a truly objective method for measuring employee performance.
Pros
Ability to work remotely promoted good home/work blance
Cons
Continual Downsizing made security non-existent
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication
Pros
Probably, training opportunities were better than most companies. My expereince with job reviews is that it was a waste of my time.
Cons
Unrealistic demands on working environment. EDS management would sign contracts that a sane person would run away from. Maybe with HP management things may change.
Advice to Senior Management
EDS/HPmanagement should sit down and work with the technicians that are expected to do the job. This would give EDS/HP management a realistic idea if the terms of the contract are doable.
Pros
Great co-workers that help you when needed and understand and help with your frustration at work. Service juggernaut that had large accounts which meant there was plenty of work.
Cons
Frustrating compensation and promotion hurdles. Plenty of work meant that you were doing more than plenty of work. Work life balancing act was difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to your people managers and whether they use nepotism in picking and choosing employees for promotions and opportunities.
Pros
Learning something new ..being placed in different areas within the company to learn new things.
Cons
Non-balance between advancement of experience within the company and salary reflection.
Advice to Senior Management
Due to such fast transistion between HP and EDS; customer satification or support has gone down as well as employee morale. Focus on existing customers and those employees supporting existing account so sustainable business is not lost.
Pros
my immediate group management is great
part of an actual team that works well together
great customer
Cons
upper management is self-serving and clueless when it comes to caring for the people that actually do the work and are the true assets of the company.
The bottom line rules regardless of the longterm ramifications
Advice to Senior Management
care for your people!!!
Pros
There is very little good to say about EDS these days. EDS was once was a company that I was very proud to work for, but now it is just a paycheck until I find something better.
Cons
Our pay has become stagnant, as well as out ability to move to different organizations within the company. Management has become numb to our concerns & just gives us the same canned answer day after day... "If you don't like it, feel free to leave."
Advice to Senior Management
it is time to stop worrying about the investors & start worrying about the employees. Great employees will take care of the investors, but not if they all leave for greener pastures.
Pros
-Big company: Helps find one or another assignment,
-Flexible hours: I can work with real convenient times except for the meetings
-Good peers to work with
Cons
-Careless Manager: My manager doesn't care about your interests but is only concerned with answering to her management.
-Ineffective senior management: All speak & actions of senior management seems artificial.
-No concern of the employee
-Cost cutting initiatives
Advice to Senior Management
Be practical. Too much theory going on in the company but the reality on the field is different. I do appreciate the different initiatives but not measures of cost cutting. Make the employee feel more comfortable with the company and more recognized.
