Worst job in 32 years in IT

Systems Engineer (Former Employee) Troy, MI

Pros- Initial training programs for new graduates
    - Was once a great company
    - Was once full of good people
    - Was once led by Ross Perot

Cons- Work harder than ever for the worst raises that are scheduled to be late every year so you only get 4 increases every 5 years at best.
    - Has been a sinking ship for 30 years.
    - Old school management that gets the worst out of people by making them despise their employer.
    - Unethical practices made it an embarrassment to admit who signed my checks.
    - What you do means nothing, who you know means everything.

Advice to Senior Management- People are not cogs.
    - People have lives outside of work.

Was a great place to work until economic downfall!

Systems Administrator (Former Employee) Detroit, MI

ProsMy first big job that I ever had until I had a medical issue. Once I was through with the medical issue I was put on a project which completed successfully.

ConsAs soon as I was back with my group after the project I got laid off! I was training a minority and she kept her job. Along with another minority kept his job. My boss and I got laid off!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Excellent experience at EDS

Program Manager (Former Employee) Detroit, MI

ProsGreat company culture that emphasized employee development and opportunities. Excellent opportunities to work at various large companies and gain a lot of experience quickly.

ConsSome of company culture that made it a great place to work was lost with the acquisition by HP.

ConsWeb TV didn't always work, there were layoffs quite often, and jobs went overseas.

    Overtime is always expected

Project Manager (Current Employee) Detroit, MI

ProsLearning library available to expand your skills ...if you ever had any free time.

ConsExcessive overtime is always expected. Deadlines are unrealistic.

Advice to Senior ManagementHigher project managers that present resource leveled plans and stop cutting 40% from the timeline but still expecting 110% of the workload to be completed. What happened to work life balance?

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good Company overall to work for

Communications Engineer (Former Employee) Detroit, MI

ProsThey believe in an open door policy. Employees are allowed to express themselves to at least 2 higher level of Management without ever worring that what ever you discuss will not be used against you.

ConsManagement? It can be a bumppy road. I've had great leader's, and then well I often wonder how did some of the leader's ever get into Management?

Advice to Senior ManagementFor being a Company that strongly talks about pay for performance, it's not fair to employees who busts thier butt's and gives thier all 7/24 and yet they are told when there performance reviews are done, that they still need to improve in other area's and then are required to sign off on them knowing they will not see additional funding in thier pay check. 24 to 36 months is to long between any type of cash increase.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
