Averse to innovation, rigid,

Global Contract Manager (Former Employee)
Indianapolis, IN

I worked at Eli Lilly full-time for more than a year

ProsHistory of great benefits, good pay for the Midwest, great for the resume

ConsManagement does not value employees, considers them disposable and interchangeable, rigid in application of policies unless you have made a friend in upper management - then any rule can be overlooked. Old boys club- exactly as you would expect of Indiana.

The Lilly "culture" does not lend itself to utilizing and maximizing an employee's skills or potential

Quality Supervisor (Former Employee)
Indianapolis, IN

I worked at Eli Lilly full-time

ProsThere are some great people at Lilly's, the pay is competitive and there are opportunities.

ConsVery political, best people don't always get opportunities to shine

Advice to Senior Managementeliminate at least 1 or 2 levels of mid management, OA's have more value than Team Leaders, treat ALL employees with dignity and respect, do not create jobs for people that wouldn't otherwise be promoted, eliminate cronyism, recruit from a more diverse list of universities, value mature employees (both in age and tenure)...Manager/Director level need to be merged...Team Leader role needs eliminated

Chemist (Former Employee)
Indianapolis, IN

I worked at Eli Lilly as an intern for less than a year

ProsExcellent people, environment and compensation

ConsLots of red tape but this probably is because I wasn't there long enough to really get the hang of things.

A good place to work

Operator (Current Employee)
Indianapolis, IN

I have been working at Eli Lilly full-time for more than a year

ProsFriendly atmosphere. The company works hard to keep employee morle up.

ConsThe hoops you have to jumb through to get anything done. Why do I have to call India to tell someone that my computer is acting up? Why cant I just call someone in IT?

Great learning experience, but the company has changed in recent years.

Director (Former Employee)
Indianapolis, IN

I worked at Eli Lilly full-time for more than 8 years

ProsSmart people, Midwestern work ethic, good long-term pipeline

ConsShort-term pipeline is weak, another big patent expiration is looming (Cymbalta) and the company tends to value consensus more than strategic leadership.
