I worked at Eli Lilly as a contractor for more than 10 years

    Pros

Clean environment, management was always pretty good, although if there is a conflict between a contractor and an employee, it's the contractor's fault automatically.

    Cons

Contractor's are treated as second rate citizens. They have to park far away and often walk past a lot of empty parking spaces that will be empty all day, but are reserved for employees.

I have been working at Eli Lilly full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Many opportunities to perform different jobs ever 2-3 years, good benefits, US HQ is in Indianapolis

    Cons

Management only cares about promoting themselves, many, many professional networkers that just have meetings with others to try to get promoted. No meaningful leadership or supervisor training means you most likely will get someone that has no idea how to lead people, very large discrepancy between associate level pay and management, for some reason they keep approving larger bonuses for themselves every time there is a benchmarking, kind of a joke

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people like adults and TRAIN your leaders

    Interesting work and great people

    I worked at Eli Lilly

    Pros

People were great to work with, very challenging and interesting projects

    Cons

There was a large pressure to reduce costs by any means necessary, eliminating free coffee, even water coolers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't sweat the little stuff like coffee, that might save $50,000 year when you're spending millions on drug pipelines that will never see development.

I have been working at Eli Lilly full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Salary and benefits are good for a midwestern city. CEO being a scientist has a very research minded approach.

    Cons

Very conservative company when it comes to R&D. Very much 'wait and see' approach to other biotech and pharma.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be a leader in innovation.

I worked at Eli Lilly full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people and culture. Focused on patient outcomes and not selling more product. Autonomous atmosphere with freedom to make business decisions while still being held accountable to team goals.

    Cons

Sales manager was great, let me run territory like my own business. Great coach, helping me grow as a sales representative and in my career development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Currently asking representatives to do a much more complex and demanding job while still expecting the same number of calls per day for lesser compensation and bonuses than we had two years ago.

I have been working at Eli Lilly full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Very stable company with robust pipeline. Good work life balance, top notch training.

    Cons

As of recent future seems uncertain. Sales commission structure constantly changes for the worse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward employees more based on their performance than other non selling issues. Management could do a better job of developing their employees.

It's a good place to work if you are an employee, not so much as a contractor.

I have been working at Eli Lilly as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Eli Lilly is a large company with many jobs. They try to keep employees on even if various sections of the company close.

    Cons

If you are a contractor you are not treated as well as employees. You have to park in a separate area and there are no provisions for disabled parking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the treatment given to contractors, since there are so many of them in your company.
