I worked at Embarcadero Technologies full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Coworkers are friendly and know how to have a good time outside of work. Great team environment.

    Cons

-Poor management and egregious management styles.
-Marketing provides absolutely zero leads to go on.
-Hitting quota is a rare feat even with the ramp up for new reps.
-Innovation does not seem to be an option for Embarcadero. They are content to stick with what has worked in the past, however, that is not proving to be a lasting strategy.

I have been working at Embarcadero Technologies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Great database and developer tools

    Cons

Bugs, regressions, pushes product out with new features instead of enhancing the existing features.

Stingy with the $, most people I work with have not gotten a pay increase in years, they've even made a company wide 10% pay decrease that lasted a year or longer. 401k match was just recently returned. Low moral of workforce; overworked and underpaid. Braindrain, many long time workers have gone on to greener pastures. Low moral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your talent and pay them what they're worth.

    Pros

Really nice people to work work. Very experienced and dedicated. Great location in the Financial district. Easy walk from BART.

    Cons

The company seems to lack a cohesive view of what they want to be and how to differentiate themselves. They seem to simply be riding the wave of successful products past.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Determine a winning future strategy. Determine which products fit that vision and which don't.

I worked at Embarcadero Technologies for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * Opportunities to learn new skills
    * Office is close to great restaurants, shops, etc.
    * If you don't care about career growth, it can be an easy job depending on your role

    Cons

    * Sexist management - if you're a woman look elsewhere, you'll never get anywhere in this company
    * Poor business strategy but a management that is old fashioned and doesn't want to change its ways
    * Executives hire their golf buddies rather than skilled employees who can get the job done

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of the executives at this company are too insecure and small minded to realize or care about the company or their employees - so no point in giving any advice

I have been working at Embarcadero Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - Great people to work with who are always willing to collaborate and share their knowledge.
    - Awesome location, especially for those who live in the Santa Cruz area
    - Cool products
    - Great life/work balance (if you can swing it)

    Cons

    - Very little room for salary advancement
    - Each release brings more responsibilities without compensation
    - Bad decisions regarding personnel changes

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With each release we tend to lose great engineering talent. I believe this is because salary levels have not increased in almost 10 years for most employees. Each release also tends to bring more responsibilities to the individual without compensation in any way. This leads to RTM slips and lower quality products.

Bring the salaries in line with what the rest of the area is offering.
Quit being so stingy about telecommuting options, especially since you moved us from beautiful offices to crummy cubicles.

I worked at Embarcadero Technologies full-time

    Pros

People are generally smart with a good work ethic. Company doesn't generally do large layoffs, instead opting for cross the board salary reduction and then restoration.

    Cons

Company has made a big investment in a new product line known as AppWave. This is a software distribution and virtualization technology, but Embarcadero didn't do a great job of testing the product, so there have been lots of customer teething problems. Also the company doesn't have the marketing muscle of Citrix, VMWare and Microsoft, who are also in the space.

    I worked at Embarcadero Technologies

    Pros

The location is definitely the key reason to work here. Especially if you live in San Francisco. It's also near the ferry building and BART. The people in Sales are some of the nicest you'll meet.

    Cons

The executive team has great ideas but lacks the ability to clearly execute on the vision. It causes frustration at many levels of the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look in the mirror. The problem doesn't begin with the troops, it begins with you. You need to make the changes that you demand everyone else makes.
