Too bad EQ was purchased to the planation owners from Louisiana

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Overland Park, KS

ProsEmbarq was a great place to work. The people were wonderful. Leadership (except for the CEO) was top notch.

ConsThe CEO and BOD sold out the employees to CenturyLink. CL culture was a sweat-shop where employees are not valued.

Great company, too bad they were "sold"

Project Manager II (Former Employee) Overland Park, KS

ProsVery professional, flexible with work/life balance, room to advance, great benefits, friendly co-workers and managers, tuition reimbursement, decent recognition, seemed fair. So many more to list.

ConsNot really anything bad to say other than the number of re-orgs which seems to be the norm. Re-orgs made sense however placed some in positions they were not qualified to be in.

Advice to Senior ManagementNone really. Since the company was sold and only a handful of employees remain at the "old" headquarters, it would have been nice to see the execs do more for the employees based in the KC metro area when it came to the sale.

    Acceptable

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosopportunity to advance is limited, but if you do your job you are rewarded financially. Management is not always responsive to requests and follow up is needed

Consvery corporate, call center work can be boring and supervisors can be erratic in their style and expectations of employees

Advice to Senior Managementstandardize the management style, personality issues can create a poor work environment and can ceated unnecessary tension between co-workers and peers

    Good Place To Work

Manager (Former Employee) Winter Park, FL

ProsSr. Management competent and genuinely concerned for employees
    Middle management also competent
Compensation is inline for the industry
Benefits are ok but require greater contribution from employee each year

ConsShrinking y means focus is saving on opex. Lots of pressure to maintain or reduce costs in all areas
periodic RIF's. Well handled by management but difficult nonetheless

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow more notice to individuals being Rif'd

Great place to work, but downsizing is really a major problem.

    Intern (Former Employee)

ProsEveryone is very nice, very competent , and will work hard to help you achieve your goals. As I was an intern, I did not have as much experience as others, but it was still a good experience.

ConsDownsizing -- that is the major downside of working at Embarq. They just completed a merger and core group members were being laid off left and right. It is a real problem -- no job security.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop downsizing! Core competencies are being lost and the smartest people are leaving in droves! This makes it so that no one wants to stay!
