Very enjoyable work if you are in the Hospitality industry

Guest Service Representative (Current Employee)
Lexington, KY

I have been working at Embassy Suites full-time for less than a year

ProsThe pay is reasonable. The training is excellent and all of my managers and supervisors are very nice and helpful. There are many parts to the hotel so you can work in all areas and grow in the industry. Health and dental insurance are good.

ConsThe vision insurance provided is almost useless. If you do not have a degree you can't be promoted within the hotel. I actually have more hotel experience than either of my direct supervisors.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow people to move into management based on experience and knowledge, not a piece of paper. Not putting down college, but i have supervisor that just graduated a month ago with a degree in Psychology. How does that make her more qualified than me when I've been doing this for a long time?

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

One of the worst hotels to work for in Los Angeles!!!!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Glendale, CA

I worked at Embassy Suites full-time for less than a year

ProsNone besides the supposed free meals which gets pre taxed...they pay you minimum and then you have to shell out 40 bucks per pay check to cover the cost of those "free" meals. On top charge you 50 bucks per month for parking...did I mention they start at minimum!!!

ConsToo long to even list...
Horrible management..and their corporate office is just as bad they seem to wash their hands clean of everything. No reviews the past three years...and when they did do reviews merely a 25 cent increase for some....horrible work atmosphere. Understaffed and everyone seems they been kicked into what they're doing without any proper training. Employee morale is horrible and very sad this is how they have treated their employees for over 3 years with what little time I spent here, it was the worst experience ever!! and they do not even provide proper uniforms!! or supplies to even do your job the cheapest company ever!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementSeems they pretty much hired anyone who wanted the job and is being run by complete idiots

Lackluster - very little pay

GSR (Current Employee)
Brunswick, GA

I have been working at Embassy Suites

ProsNice environment (visually), fun meeting nice guests.

ConsThey don't keep their promises. They hire you and agree to pay you a certain amount but once you start working they pay you less than what you agreed to. My advice to anyone who is offered a position, make sure you receive a letter of hire specifying the amount of money you will be paid hourly. Also, be prepared to stand for several hours (6-8) with no breaks. If you have sensitive feet, this is not a job for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should keep to their word when hiring. If you make a promise to someone about how much they will make, then make sure that is what is on their paycheck. It took several weeks to see any change on my check after I kept nagging management. And I'm still not receiving what I was promised.

The Black Hole of Your Career

Night Audit (Former Employee)
Sacramento, CA

I worked at Embassy Suites

ProsGood connection with a very large and wonderful parent company (Hilton Hotels). Wonderful travel discounts that permit you to stay at any Hilton properties at a more cost effective rate. Salary very competitive with the industry.

ConsThis location had absolute zero room for advancement with the company. Communications between employees/managers/departments were non-existent. Annual raises based on performance never exceed $0.20/hr.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork on your communication skills, do not allow your personal feelings to influence you at work, show interest in the betterment of the careers of those who work for you and establish plans to build their advancement.

Good place to work with visible and available possibilities for upward mobility

Guest Service Representative (Current Employee)
Norman, OK

I have been working at Embassy Suites

ProsExtremely well run hotel. Managers are accomodating to employees and guests. Overall appreciation of employees which is nice. Lots of task variety. They like to hire from within so all managers know what employees have done because they have done it and the opportunities are visibile and available.

Cons8 hour shifts can be long, but the task variety makes it go quickly.

Embassy Suites

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Embassy Suites

ProsVery flexible environment as well as very good pay with tips. Everyone is very friendly, which makes working there easier.

ConsBecause of the economic downturn, it seems like there has been an overall decrease in the amount of people employed. This results in lots of work needed by a few individuals, as well as an expectation for the quality to remain unchanged by upper management. There is also a lack of training and poor communication between what management wants and what we know. It also seems like there are trust issues and instead of letting a capable individual be in charge of a facet in the company the general manager feels like he must do it all himself.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice would be to not have unreal expectations of your employees, it's very hard to expect quality to stay the same when you decrease the amount of employees that you have. However, you are good at keeping the morale up through your "catch me at my best."
