I worked at EmblemHealth full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There were many promotional opportunities available to all current employees at any one of their locations. As they merged with HIP it opened up a flurry of opportunities

    Cons

Truly would have appreciated an onsite cafeteria for employees. This would have definitely maximized production with incentivizing people to stay within the building instead of traveling to get lunch.

    Pros

People in the trenches doing the actual work are the decent people to work with

    Cons

If you are not part of the clique, no chance of promotion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A 360 evaluation is needed for the senior leadership.

I worked at EmblemHealth full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    1. Learnt a lot about healthcare system
    2. Made friends in some of my colleagues

    Cons

Saying this place was like working in hell on earth is not an overstatement:
    1. Bad pay and raises in pay are pathetic.
    2. No chance for advancement as there is way too much politics and false promises. Build your expectations and deliver nothing.
    3. Political landscape is like a mine field. So much back stabbing and put downs. Wasn't unusually for several of the seniors to come out of the managers office crying.
    4. Management is a group of crazy, toxic individuals who have no idea on how to manage anyone effectively or create a productive environment.
    5. Managers don't back you up at all and don't support any growth and development. They pretend like they have no idea what is going on and act surprised and taken back by the above.
    6. Trap applicants who have just gotten out of college so that they are stuck because this is their first job.
    7. Managers take micro management to another level. Everyone is watching you and waiting to throw you under the bus.

Most of the people that I knew who worked here don't work here anymore. There place is like a revolving door. There are much better places to work out there. Give yourself options and apply to as many places as you can.

I worked at EmblemHealth as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Emblem Health has great history. The employeed are friendly and happy as theu have been there over 10 years You will learn and keep very busy. Dynamic IT Environment

    Cons

They use the contractrors up and they do not pay overtime after 40 hours even if you are an hourly contractor.
Very little training, you have to know your stuff because there is a very demanding user base.
Mgmnt is petty and childish. They turn personal issues into work related issues. Will lie to to your face. HR and Compliance are useless.

I worked at EmblemHealth full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great retirement benefits. Good environment for consultant that seeks to transition into Fulltime role. Great place for new project managers and professionals seeking to retire within 5 -10 yrs

    Cons

Requires PMP for all project managers, yet does not have an adequate clear career development/promotion plan to retain talent. Seasoned project management professionals should remain with company 2 yrs max if seeking opportunity to grow career.
Lack of understanding or desire to work with IT
Sr Managers lead using an intimidation/approach which leads to poor morale and professional "bullying" tactics that will result in Legal action

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

1.Seek an end to end assessment on the EPMO, including Program and Project Managers from KPMG, PWC, or simliar
    2. Request a Gap Analysis compared to other Healthcare PMO such as United Health Group
    3. Develop 5 yr plan to revise EPMO to work in Partnership with IT

    Pros

Emblemhealth has a great friendly staff of nurses and doctors. The IT team is willing to help anyone who asks for it.

    Cons

There needs to be more definition on project timelines and prioritization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If there can be some coordination between departments, it would be extremely helpful.

I worked at EmblemHealth full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary, benefits , bonuses and location.. Water St has a state of the art gym as well.

    Cons

The EPMO dept leaves much to be desired, disfunctional at times. This comes from the lack of direction from the top (director) and effects projects. They tend to hire 95% Indian. Difficult to transfer once you are in a position right below manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to your middle managers and demote them if they aren't good managers.
