I have been working at Emergency Medicine Associates

    Pros

So far, I've thoroughly enjoyed the mentoring provided to me by my excellent medical director. He takes time to get to know each of the physicians and physician assistants working there, understand your interests and talents, and invests time into grooming you so that you grow as EMA grows!
This is my third job as an attending physician and this is the best company I have ever worked for! The amount of professionalism, polish and Progressive thinking pale in comparison to standard EM jobs out there, whether as independent contractor or employee.

    Cons

I haven't come across any cons as of yet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please continue to value your employees and continue to prioritize maintaining a high level of professionalism as well as vision.

I have been working at Emergency Medicine Associates

    Pros

EMA has been a great company to work for. I am relatively new to this group and have been welcomed and mentored without feeling pressured. The other attendings have been extremely helpful and the physicians and PA's at my site are great to work with. Leadership both at a group level and at my site have been supportive and interested in helping me grow and expand my role at EMA. Good benefits and possibility for partnership.

Quarterly Luncheons are wonderful. Working from home is a plus. As the company grows I still get the "Family" feeling.

I have been working at Emergency Medicine Associates full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Group has great reputation and stability for >40 years. EMA has had steady growth and has acquired new hospital sites on a regular basis. EMA is a physician owned and operated group that is not so big it has become impersonal or inflexible to clinician needs. If you work hard, you will be rewarded through the incentive program and there are always additional opportunities for additional administrative duties. There are opportunities to cover different hospitals and environments.

    Cons

Initial compensation may be lower than some jobs, but that is offset by opportunities and long-term stability.

I have been working at Emergency Medicine Associates

    Pros

I have been employed at EMA as a staff emergency physician for over ten years, and have served at a number of the company's emergency departments. This is a dynamic and progressive company. There is advancement for physicians who are willing to provide excellent medical care with a patient-centered emphasis. There is a wide variety of practice settings. One of the greatest company values is that the practice is entirely physician-owned.

    Cons

This is not really a problem...just a fact of life for successful practices that are growing. The issue is making sure that all physicians recognize the importance of participating in what it takes to make the company successful in the future as well. Everyone has to make a sincere effort to make a contribution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to your employees, just as you have done in the past.

I have been working at Emergency Medicine Associates full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They are very flexible with scheduling. When I had some significant family issues arise, they helped me rearrange my schedule, and my colleagues helped swap shifts/pick up shifts for me so that I could attend to my family's needs. I work for a couple other ER groups, and that flexibility and care about the individual has not been there. I am very grateful for EMA's help during that time.

    Cons

Just the usual challenges of working in in the emergency department, but they seem to have a handle on these issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the personalize touch that you guys have shown me. It helps make everything else seem trivial.

I have been working at Emergency Medicine Associates as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

EMA has always treated me and those I know of very well. There is respect and care placed on employee's opinions and concerns. One aspect which truly stands out is the flexibility of the hours. In majority of the departments there is the ability to set hours in a way which works for you. Finally, the employees are friendly and caring towards one another which makes it an easy place to come to each day!

    Cons

The days can become very busy and if you do not stay organized it could be difficult to keep up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be supportive to the employees and hear out their concerns and opinions!

    Pros

EMA has great doctors and PAs... everybody feels like family and helps each other out. Nobody abuses the on-call system. People are fun to work with. Can earn up to 9 weeks of vacation if/when make partner!

    Cons

Health insurance plan could be a bit better and richer. Could have better communication about career arcs for providers. Could consider being paid for taking call.

I have been working at Emergency Medicine Associates

    Pros

I've worked for EMA for almost 10 years. During that time, what I appreciate most is the exemplary and pervasive level of commitment from management to the providers to every single person in the office. Because of this winning attitude we have been able to retain great talent, grow at a reasonable pace, and maintain our status as the finest providers of community emergency medicine in a very competitive market. EMA is the exact right size. The group offers a personal touch yet is large enough to allow significant personal and career growth.

    Cons

Benefits can be complex and difficult to understand at times.
