I worked at Emeritus Senior Living full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay was above average. Otherwise no other pros to speak of unless you like abuse. Stay away far away.

    Cons

Expected to travel on a whim. I was expected to drive 5 hours one way work 8 and drive back home. On call 24/7 therefore no sleep. Long hours. Lack of respect from the corp office. Terminate employees on a weekly basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your employees. Allow management to do their jobs. No manager can turn around a problem building in 6 months. Do not expect management to work 24/7. There needs to be a balance between work and family. Give the residents what they are paying for. Constant staff turn around is not good for the resident. Sell your buildings you should not be in business.

    Pros

Some of the workers and the Residents

    Cons

This is the worst company that I ever worked for. The regional directors are nasty and only see the residents as dollar signs. The treat their managers like dirt. Demand that you work 14 or more hours a day, You are on call 24/7 with no compensation. The corp/regional directors expect you to travel 5 hour trips for training. Travel time does not count as work time. You are expected to work 8 hours after traveling 5. The regional directors will undermine every thing you do. The ED lies and is secretive. Will change the schedule after it is posted. Will not communicate with you and will with hold information. If you like a high stress, abuse, no sleep, not seeing your family. Not having time for doctors/dental appointments. Want to work 16 plus hours days without comp time. Then work at Emeritus of Allentown. The worst toxic place I ever had the displeasure to work for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your workers with respect. Realize that your managers have a life outside the job. Every manager needs a balance between work and home. The residents are not just dollar signs but people who are paying for a service. Just because one is a salaried worker does not mean they sold their sole to the devil. Do not come into the building a change everything and micromanage. Just sell the building and get out of the healthcare business.
