I have been working at Emerson full-time

    Pros

Salary is good, fun benefits in many of the departments. Group is fun to work with. Challenging work at times. Company rewards those who work hard and stay with them long term. Good work-life balance, travel expectations are low for some positions.

    Cons

Not many training opportunities. Expects relocation throughout career, must be very mobile. Old school benefits, who still offers a pension? Company lacks diversity (of race, gender, and age) in many of the U.S. locations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hard to recruit top young talent with the benefits package that has not been updated in many decades. Spouses work (or like to) in the 21st century, hard to relocate a family w/o company support.

I worked at Emerson full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Perks at the world headquarters; gym, cafeteria, free gym bag, company store, nice campus, 401K.

    Cons

Seas of cubicals, and people give a lot of push back on process improvements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Overall very well managed company that is stable, promotes from within, had only 3 CEOs since 1956. Although a US based company, more sales outside US. Places ethics very high.

    Cons

Divisions operate in silos. There is hardly any collaboration between them.

I worked at Emerson full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I gained corporate experience at a large, international company. Emerson never changes, which is a con to me, but a pro to others. They have a gym with a free personal trainer and classes, which was literally the best part about going to work.

    Cons

Sexual harassment from men. Very closed-minded to new ideas. Political. Very black & white, and most employees are "robotic." I learned that the only reason why most people stay there is because it's comfortable/safe, not because they are passionate about what they do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to new, innovative ideas.

I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great pay for CNC machinist.

    Cons

Be prepared to work everyday of your time. When you are at work you are expected to skip lunch and your breaks. Since the pay is based on production every time you stop the machine you lose money. Most people last about 4 years before they can't take it anymore and have to quit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop sending manufacturing jobs overseas!

I worked at Emerson full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It's a relatively stable company if you are able to take the stodgy silo culture and strong matrix organizational structure.

    Cons

Not the best onboarding and training program, and if you can't cut it, despite being ill-equipped, the company will kick you out the door very quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to train your new hires better, get them into the the thick of things more quickly so that they are practicing what they learn, and break down the agonizingly thick silo walls.

I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work-Home life seem to be very balanced in this company (and even more-so depending on your boss).
    Vacation accumulates fairly quickly.
They like to keep individuals in house, it is easy to move up the ladder here.

    Cons

The HR staff here moves slower than any HR group that I have ever worked with before!
The salaries at times can seem to be a little less competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be willing to make sacrifices to keep solid employees. There have been many good employees leave for an outside company because Emerson would not meet some simple requests.
