I have been working at Emerson full-time

    Pros

They have a pretty good retirement program if you can put up with the unfair treatment. Emerson Electric is a stable company.

    Cons

Old school good 'ole boys club with stubborn old management mentality. Clicks are formed within the organization and either you're in or you're out. Upper management, middle managers and supervisors play favorites and hand out promotions to those that they consider "loyal" (kiss-ups).

Engineering department is full of arrogant managers who spew buzz words and acronyms to build their already large egos and contribute very little to the final product other than delay it with poor decisions.
Engineering supervisors lack the necessary education but compensate by abusing their power. They offer little assistance to their employees while kissing the rings of every manager.
Training and travel to higher level employees is easily available while the lower level employees that can benefit most from it, are refused, even after several requests. In fact, making requests to management for much needed training or to travel to manufacturing locations is considered as threatening behavior and the response is retaliation.

Pay is low and promises of promotion are verbal. Veteran employees know that communication between them and management must always be in written email form and keep a record of it.

The turnover among bright, productive employees is quite high. Those who remain silent, content to have a job and afraid to rock the boat are the ones who last the longest. They are happy with their small raises and try to make it to retirement hoping the stress doesn't kill them first.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop punishing low level employees for speaking up. Control power hungry supervisors who push blame to others. Stop rewarding spineless or backstabbing managers.

    I worked at Emerson

    Pros

Worked in the Avocent Division for several years, great people, good pay, benefits are better than most companies.

    Cons

The Avocent and Liebert divisions are still trying to create synergy together. Work culture is fragmented with no real direction, other than pushing the Trellis platform which is far behind schedule and over marketed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a positive attitude toward employees and foster a more exciting climate for a company.

I worked at Emerson full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I come here at work and feel like at home cause there's a harmonious working relationship in the office that makes work easy to bear amidst all the deadlines and gruelling work.

    Cons

When you're doing a project, be able to set aside your social activities for the meantime as you will be bombarded with a lot of workload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on the salary and compensation of the employees to reduce attrition rate.

I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

If you're an executive, you can do and say what you want without repercussions. HR always sides with upper management.

    Cons

Management style is very old fashioned and structure is very hierarchical. There is no way to influence the way things are done. Technology tools are obsolete and time-wasting. Certain supervisors and managers have a power trip and punish their best reports out of fear their own incompetence will be revealed. They tend to hire straight out of college with no experience and pay them very low.

This is one of the most politically oriented environments on the planet. The executive area of the company purposefully intimidates each and every employee with their personal (outside the company) political views (which lean very far to the right). As for internal politics, that has everything to do with making yourself look good to your superiors, at the total cost of truth, fairness and making those around you look bad to bolster the higher ups view of you.

Positive reviews on here are mostly from interns, managers or executives and don't represent the reality that goes on in this political circus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the best (not the cheapest) and pay them well. Fire supervisors and managers who deliberately sabotage the reputations of others for their own gain. Stop punishing employees for complaining about annual appraisals that are full of lies. Follow through on verbal promises and find your integrity.

I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits for leadership employees. Generous tuition reimbursement program. Very rarely terminates employees unless company-wide layoffs.

    Cons

Difficult for female and minority employees to get ahead. Emerson prefers Engineers and Attorneys, otherwise difficult to obtain a certain level of respect. Too many dead-weight employees (too much job security). Very old-fashioned organization, change is a difficult concept.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Diversify leadership..everyone doesn't have to look and act the same to be efficient.

    Pros

This company is a great place for on the job learning and specialised skills. Good if you are a fresh graduates but not so for the experience employee.

    Cons

-Restrictive or archaic HR policy (eg. poor compensation even for top consistent top performers, horrible salary compression, poor perks)
    - Losing a lot of talent causing poor employee morale and the company to continue to deteriorate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company need to be more progressive and dynamics as it is getting left far behind by the competitors.
Just afraid the company will die of old age if nothing been changed.

    Negative Outlook
