I worked at Emerson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fair salaries, decent opportunities to grow

    Cons

company depends too much on low cost labor manufacturing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stick to best cost producer strategy rather than lowest price, don't trust Chinese and Korean joint venture partners to NOT stonewall productivity numbers to inspire early buy out, then actually hit previously "unachievable" targets and beat the US firm on competitive bids not long after the exit is complete

I have been working at Emerson full-time

    Pros

I enjoy this company much more than past employers because they really seem to care that you are emotionally fulfilled by doing your job. The majority of people you work with treat you with respect, and are usually very willing to pitch in to help you succeed. It's a large company, so there are opportunities to move around and try different things.

    Cons

I find it difficult to understand the direction of the company as communicated by the execs. I think I see disconnects between what they say they want to do and providing the tools to do it. Often the vision is inspiring, but execution seems to bog down in process and procedure execution. While salaries are competitive, I would appreciate a more robust incentive pay program for people in jobs other than sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Survey employees; ask what sorts of things get in the way of them being able to fulfill the vision.

I have been working at Emerson

    Pros

Salary is competive for the role, as well as decent benefits. Vacation, Insurance, etc are competitive with the industry. Safety is a very high priority and management has your back.

    Cons

Not really too many cons. It is a big corporation so flexibility at times is limited on their end. Also outsource quite a bit of work to low cost countries.

I worked at Emerson as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Leadership in this company is very well executed. This can be seen from the top all the way to the bottom of management. The work-life balance was satisfactory. Any time there was something needed to complete the job, it was provided.

    Cons

The only drawback with this particular company is the lack of room for promotion. Since this company is highly desirable, there are many who maintain their position and do not relinquish it easily.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Growth is something that should be embraced and understood. Creation of new positions to handle this growth would create opportunities for those eager to make an impact.
