    Pros

Free concert tickets, EVERY holiday off, birthday off, fun events, laid back atmosphere.

    Cons

Crap pay. After taxes I made $829 every 2 weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop giving us gizmos and free lunch. Have bonuses and raises for your employees.

    Pros

1). In most markets Emmis has good media products
2.) Generally has a good reputation
3.) Benefits were good at the time that I left
4.) You could have some really great co-workers like I did!

    Cons

1.) Management is completely out of touch with what's happening on the streets and what sellers are up against
2.) Ineffective communication for a communications company
3.) Micro-managemnt of some and no oversight whatsoever of others

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Great people, innovative ideas, free-wheeling encouraged, great benefits, superb perks, and constant praise given for a job well done. Emmis is a company with its finger on the pulse of many industries and the people that make it to the top are normally the cream-of-the-crop.

    Cons

Limited advancement opportunities - though this is because not many people want to leave the company; Emmis does, at times, choose to take the safe route instead of blazing their own trail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More development on existing staff; a need to examine their "best bet" to assure that they are a true fit to the overall team; a conscious effort to take the suggestions of lower & mid-level staff.

    Pros

Coworkers are fun. It's a fun environment. Had some perks like concert tickets. Time off was easy to get and managers were understanding.

    Cons

It's hard to move up and the pay isn't very good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget the little people. Sometimes they need a raise too.

    Cons

Very dry, stuffy and stiff environment. Forced fun.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appoint people to delegate that have real leadership qualities and can handle the balance between being a boss/friend.

Former Employee - On Air Host in New York, NY

I worked at Emmis Communications part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It was one of the best places I ever worked! Colleagues were very supportive of one another. The stations were very professionally managed, and led by very focused and successful upper management. Expectations were clearly explained, station plans were very organized and executed very efficiently. Staff rarely called off work, high morale, and fun social events for coworkers where we could comfortably let our hair down, on occasion.

    Cons

I honestly cant think of any, other than it was unfortunate that our station's format flipped after several years of being a heritage format/station, resulting in many extremely- talented individuals being let go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None...other than to bring back the Smooth Jazz format ?? (Note: the last year I worked for Emmis was actually 2008 (not 2009) but the dropdown did not go back far enough to 2008. Our format flipped in Feb 2008.

Current Employee - Promotion Assistant in New York, NY

I have been working at Emmis Communications part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Meet outside clients
    Access to some concerts/shows
Learn your worth/value, and you understand that you deserve more. It's a great opportunity to learn why you shouldn't settle.

    Cons

There may be a week where you are only selected to work 2 days. Don't expect to always be on the schedule. Weekend hours are required. There is little to no growth within the company. The promotions department is definitely a revolving door, especially when it pertains to entry level positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop viewing employees as just a number. Allow hardworking employees to at least experience and learn more within other departments. There should be no reason why there are 25-28 year old hardworking/experienced employers on a promotions team for 3-5 years. Promote growth within your company and stop trying to hold employers back.
