    Pros

The students were great and I enjoyed seeing them graduate and how excited they were to start school

    Cons

The new Regional Director in the region was really rude and nasty. He treated my Executive Director poorly and he constantly called and fussed about enrollments. He didn't seem to care about education... Just money

    Advice to Management

    Respect your employees

    Pros

By far, the Best beauty school nationwide.

    Cons

    Politics. Management. Favoritism. Back-stabbing.

    Advice to Management

To corporate: Pay more attention to employees and don't listen so much to what the Executive Director is reporting to you because its full of half-truths and their actions and poor choices regarding employees are ultimately effecting the companies growth and limiting its potential.

    Pros

Good Pay....students create a fun and exciting work environment

    Cons

The cliques...you couldn't trust anyone - from senior management to your own staff.......Back stabbers.....They say they will help the student find jobs after graduation...that doesn't happen either....

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the "Old Boy" network and focus on hiring people that will lend respectability to your company... and don't have the Director of Human Resources date the 2nd in command - favoritism so widespread that management is ineffective

    Pros

The hands on training was impressive. The old management team made this company feel more like a family.

    Cons

The focus is budget cuts these days. No longer hands on training. Everything is e-learning and you are are your own.
You are expected to manage operations, be the academic director and do admissions. Unrealistic at times.

    Advice to Management

Life expectancy is 2 years. Make sure you have a work-life balance or you will be sucked dry. Regional Directors turn over is high so create your own support systems.

    Pros

Empire is always improving and evolving. In the beauty services industry we must always be willing to improve and evolve. thank you EEG!!

    Cons

Secondary education and the limited funding create a vacuum where certain students who are born for our industry struggle to be able to afford to go to school, while other students who really don't know what they want to be get similar funding creating a classroom where passion filled students quickly become exhausted by check seeking students who lack passion and bring them down. Ultimately, if you are born to be a hair designer, no one or nothing can stand in your way. In contrast, if you weren't born to be a hair designer, everything and anything will distract you...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your educators, inspire your students who sit on the fence, keep high standards, don't settle for mediocre results.

    Pros

Worked with a lot of awesome people!

    Cons

More work and less pay. No raises at most levels in the company. No real focus on "education" more focus on $$$$! Horrible communication between home office and individual schools.

    Advice to Management

Poor choices on regional directors, keeping them in their positions way too long causing more damage. Focus on the individuals actually running the schools, show a little gratitude once in awhile.

    Pros

Empire has some really smart people working in the office, its a great place to learn and grow as a professional.
Family-like environment, relativity small home office staff, you will see a lot of familiar faces and people are generally welcoming and friendly.
Some departments are more progressive than others, depending on where you are you will be expected to keep up with the latest and bring up new ideas regularly, this is a great mentality and culture to work in.

    Cons

Industry is struggling on two fronts, for-profit education in general, and cosmetology education both seem to be on the decline for about the past 3 years running. These are very difficult challenges that will take time to overcome, expect sacrifices in raises, benefits, and perks for the foreseeable future while the company gets back on track.

Heath care plan is bad, several of my coworkers found a better deal by purchasing insurance privately.
No bonuses, infrequent and small raises, some years will have 0% raises, not a lot of room for promotion in many cases.

Pay will be below average, this is partly justified by the Pottsville location, but you can likely find significantly higher pay for the same type of position in nearby cities.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to give incentives or perks in replace of raises in times of struggle. There are number of ways to do this without breaking the bank. There is growing resentment among much of the staff that will reach a tipping point if nothing is done.

    Pros

Met some awesome people while at empire.

    Cons

Number oriented instead of going with the core value of helping other improve their lives. In reality they just want the money and could care less about the students. They pin the home office employees (cust. Contact center in my experience) against the field employees. Also it's a good Boyd club atmosphere. If you stroke their ego and make them feel cool you pretty much do whatever you want. While other agents do the same thing you get away with yet they get coached on it. This has happened far to many times while I was at empire. It's so sad that when you start their frank himself sells you such a nice story of empire and how workong their will be this wonderful experience and how family time and quality of life is most important. Yet once you are in the ccc you quickly learn that nothing you were told is true and you pretty much just signed into a 40 hour a week hell.

    Advice to Management

Really take a look at the moral and attitude of your employees and find a way to truly bring the company back to the greatness it once was. The wonderful emviroment that you discribe in the new employee luncheon.
