    Quick Advancement

    Director (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsFamily orientated. Changing lives. A profession I love. Passionate Educators.

ConsDifficult students to work with. Administrative pay is low. Company changes and policy changes are not relayed to the school levels in sufficient time , nor accurately.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be nice if corporate could see what really goes on at the school level. The types of students' the educators and staff have to deal with and how hard the staff works to try to help these students'. Raise the bar on admissions requirements.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Great Product, Bad Management

    Executive Director (Current Employee)
    Peekskill, NY

ProsI firmly believe that Empire does the best job out there in providing cosmetology education compared to other schools out there.

ConsThings are constantly changing. Every day there is a new policy or change to a policy and sometimes without any notification or heads up. You find out that things are no longer ok as you are doing them, meanwhile the same scenario a week ago was ok. The company capped salaries and eliminated all bonuses no matter how well your performance was, so there really is no incentive to work harder, They say that to get a raise was to apply and interview for a higher position, but that doesn't even work. I applied for a job where my numbers were better than the others and I still didn't get the job. All politics. Also they got rid of all face to face training and think using webinars will substitute and provide efficient training.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward your employees and do not take them for granted. You spent all of this time to establish this great company and now your cutting corner techniques will drag your morale down.

    Education Focused

    Instructor (Current Employee)

ProsThe student education is constantly being improved. It is like working with great family members, they keep you motivated and uplifted. Also, the training is pretty good.

ConsSo far I have not seen anything to say what would be a con.

Great place to grow but not a lot of qualified leadership in the field.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsStrong company, great educational products, multiple locations enable both students and staff to transfer throughout the country. Adequate facilities, compassionate and skilled staff at locations. Affordable pricing for the public.

ConsA lot of trial and error when working in the field. Some locations could use additional staff to meet the needs of both the students and community.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the people in the schools that do the jobs daily.

    Always changing -

    Admissions (Former Employee)

ProsBeing able to help individuals realize their dreams and goals can become a reality

ConsCompany is always on the cheap - giving less and asking more and more and more

Advice to Senior ManagementAcknowledge the people in the field (trenches) are valuable - not disposable
Lots of favoritism - sometimes a degree is JUST a piece of paper

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Meaningful work - helping students by living the core values of our organization daily.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe co-workers here have taught me more than any classroom ever could have. Core purpose/core values hang in every office, cubicle, classroom, etc. of buildings operated by EEG - not only do they hang there but the people live them. The company is fun to work for also...you get to be involved in a lot of different initiatives - all are dedicated to helping the student and co-worker.

ConsTypical communication or political roadblocks on occasion...nothing out of the ordinary that other organizations face.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to keep the open lines of communication with all levels of the company

    Director (Current Employee)

ProsLots of training opportunities, solid working conditions.

Conslack of transparency, policies are only relevant to half of the organization.

Number one Core Value of "Integrity", severely lacking...

    Assistant/Academic Director (Former Employee)

ProsI met some highly talented and driven individuals.

ConsFalse incentives/lies regarding raises, bonuses, promotions. Ran an award winning campus, yet bonus structure as stated in contract was never again mentioned aside from its use to get me to accept a poor salary, Poor work/life balance- to run an award campus, be prepared to work 70 + hours per week and not be rewarded for it when you are successful; instead be prepared for them to ask for even more, having seen what you are capable of. Very poor communication- Corporate communication to the schools is very inconsistent-Often you will learn of policy changes solely through getting "dinged" on it during a company run compliance audit. 109 Schools each operate differently due to such lack of structure, organization and basic communication; hence, there is constant system wide chaos. Mentality of "lets throw this at the wall to see if it sticks" regarding new procedure/policy- it's as though nothing is tested and everything is tried and reviewed in the field while you are attempting to run your business unsure of the changes to the changes that somebody makes from a cubicle in Pennsylvania. It's a daily challenge to pretend that you believe in these flawed methods and constant changes when perpetually announcing them to your employees and student body, often re nagging on the last change that was made forcing one to look like a complete imbecile and liar, when all you are doing is being the puppet that you are required to be.

Advice to Senior ManagementPractice basic accountability with employees. Take care of the employees that work round the clock to make their campus a success and actually care about the students. Let go of those that don't, and/or hold them accountable. The schools have such a tarnished and poor reputation due to such lack of regard for right and wrong. Good people get burnt out through complete lack of appreciation and/or incentive, while others do nothing and collect the same paycheck, and apparently either option is perfectly acceptable by Empire. Increase communication throughout the company, so that all schools are on the same page as is supposed to be the case.
