  1.

    Good for part-time work

    Former Employee - Cashier
    Former Employee - Cashier

I worked at Empire Theatres part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Responsibilities vary from cashier duty, to concession stand, to checking theatres, to admitting people inside. It was fun to work there with friends and make new ones as well.

    Cons

The butter and margarine pumps take a whole roll of paper towels and half the bottle of cleaning spray to get clean and even then it is still greasy. It is difficult to keep up the cleaning duties at the end of your shift.

  2.

    Pros

Kids the same age, easy hours, get to sneak peak movies

    Cons

Management was a nightmare, never actually got to see movies to sneak peaked

I worked at Empire Theatres part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Initially we had full access to view movies allowing us to be better equipped to answer customers queries, however this was modified later on.

    Cons

Work was very demanding and unless management is strong things can get chaotic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Benefits need to be stronger. The promise of advancement and growth is a hollow lie. Management needs to be held accountable, not the front line staff.

I worked at Empire Theatres part-time

    Pros

The company has a great culture instilled into it's employees, while providing an interesting and high contact customer environment. Expectations were always very clear.

    Cons

High expectations of employees for a relatively marginal pay, as typical of any customer service job. Sometimes unreasonable transaction time targets. Hours were minimal, sporadic and often inconveniently split.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In a relatively stale and monopolistic industry, advertisements need to remain edgy and unique to draw in a strong customer base. Often times movies were scheduled so that there were entirely children's movies, or entirely adult movies playing, leading to a poor demographic mix, and in regards to the latter, a slow and sometimes hostile customers.

    Pros

there are many opportunities for a person to move up within a company. I have personally got the opportunity to work at many locations, and overall the management team and staff are top notch.

    Cons

if the building is really old it hinders the moral of the employees and has an effect on how hard they may work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep having incentives to motivate your employees. also keep the culture than has been created to date. it attracts many students to work for the company.

I worked at Empire Theatres full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Free movies, great youthful staff. Flexible hours for students.

    Cons

Head Office HR completely ignored bullying and harassment concerns. Regional Manager completely ineffective in role and leads by passive aggressive emails. Terrible salary and benefits. No opportunity for advancement. Laid off entire staff with no severance or opportunities at other locations when locations shut down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring friends and hire people who are passionate about the industry. Have social recognition program. Get involved with current trends and technologies instead of maintaining the outdated status quo

I worked at Empire Theatres part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free movies. Good people to work with

    Cons

Management continuously used scare tactics. Had on call shifts as a part time employee where you had to stand by your phone all day in case they needed you in. No compensation during wait time or if they didn't call you in. Saw a girl fired immediately because she let a tiny piece of cotton candy that was floating in the air land in her mouth as it violated the companies strict no eating company food policy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lighten up. No mandatory on calls

    Pros

You get free movies and discounts on snacks after you've worked there a couple months. Tasks are varied from food prep, cleaning, cashier and stocking.

    Cons

Pretty dirty environment, from puke in theatres to butter and oil everywhere. There didn't seem to be much room for growth, I wanted to go into the treasury department since I had a little accounting experience but was refused due to them "needing" me on the floor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage more people to step up and off more opportunities for growth.
