Current Employee - Software Engineer  in  Campbell, CA
Current Employee - Software Engineer in Campbell, CA

I have been working at [24]7 full-time for less than a year

Pros

people are very nice and helpful. many software engineers are from Microsoft, so they are smart. Working schedule is flexible, as long as you work 8 hours per day (either at home or office). Communication between manager and engineers is good.

Cons

the company does not match 401k, but maybe negotiable

Current Employee - Operations Engineer  in  Campbell, CA

I have been working at [24]7 full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Core team works together to solve problems without ego, or self promoting agendas.
Good work/life balance, at least from the group I am on...direct managers are awesome....VPs not so much...
Pay is good, benefits are okay
Very smart technical people (Dev/QA/Operations & most of the PMs)

    Cons

Senior management, starting from the top (CEO, CFO) on through all the VP levels are living in a bubble. Like the three monkeys (hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil) only replace evil with reality.

No vision...no looking forward to PLAN anything! It is always a firedrill...usually because of the complete lack of a true communication channels between the US and Bangalore.

Pipe dream of a plan to become a mini Amazon Cloud...to the point of now they are bringing in people from Amazon to create another AWS work environment (aka. Operations Engineers are treated like trained monkeys, only with 'TPC' reports and 'metrics') Metrics...might work for an assembly line workforce...ain't gonna get much from a Silicon Valley workforce...especially when the economy is hot.

Mass exodus of all the most valuable people, leaving only the under achievers and a few remaining people that still want to save the platform they worked so hard to build in the 10 years before being 'assimilated' by [24]7

It has been said before, but worth saying again....PENNY WISE & POUND FOOLISH. CFO's organization is driven by percentage points...with no regard to the REAL cost in time, effort and morale of Engineering and Operations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating IC staff like consumables...and start taking the time/effort/initiative of the IC staff seriously...just as you do when purchasing a new desk for PV.

Get a plan for God's sakes! How long do you think the few remaining can take the endless firedrills..not to mention the outages caused by the arrogant developers and management from the iLabs team? We told you how the platform was built to work...you acknowledge that and agreed to work under the existing procedures, and then as soon as everybody went home..you did whatever the hell you wanted. Deploying new applications in the middle of the day? Are you kidding me?

    Please, wake up!

I worked at [24]7 full-time for more than a year

    Pros

some nice people trying to do good work for the most part but are encumbered in dealing with their Executive Management team

    Cons

Management (CSO and Executive) are clueless. People "disappear" all of the time there and when asked where they are... everyone just smiles and said they went to the 24/7 hole in the sky. Apparently, that is a BIG hole. I also found that they distort many facts of competitors, their own capabilities and products, etc...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a real COO,, with several new Senior leaders needed, who will be allowed to run the company correctly instead of the current CEO pretending to do so
