Former Employee - Facilities Technician  in  Broomfield, CO
Former Employee - Facilities Technician in Broomfield, CO

I worked at 24 Hour Fitness as a contractor for less than a year

Pros

The people you work with are generally nice and easy going. Work is easy and nothing to technical.

Cons

Some employees are a pain, clients can be a major pain as well. When ordering needed parts to repair equipment and building, be prepared for orders to be deferred and/or denied by corporate quite often making the job difficult and stressful trying to explain to immediate manager and constant questioning by clients.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Micromanagement and putting fear into your employees is not a way to build a company and it's morale to make a "better' company.

I have been working at 24 Hour Fitness full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great industry to be involved in, working with health and fitness. At the club level there are a lot of really good people to work with and, in a well run club, the interaction with the members can also make for a great work environment. Just the day to day, it is fun, positive and energizing to be a work each day.

    Cons

Corporate is a mess. They have lack ethics, people promoted by who they know, rather than skill or experiance, and people are fired because they are not liked by one person or another; they treat the field poorly, reduced benefits year over year, service team members have horrible pay despite having an important job; they are secretive about the company direction, CEO was not honest about sale of the company, and changes in direction are frequent with little to no leadup; they are out of touch, many corporate players have absolutely no idea how a club opperates. They give time expecations around executing jobs they have never done; They do not live thier own brand promise, they will not even give clubs enough money, especially in Oct to Dec, to fix and keep opperating club machines, even though we are supposed to be 'clean, friendly, and well maintained'

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more engaged with the field and not with those phony committees that are not staffed by real team members. Come to grips with and take real ground truth from the field. Follow through and make the financial commitments to making the clubs really well run and pay your staff more then what they can make at McDonalds.
