I worked at 24 Hour Fitness full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

fun atmosphere, healthy living, great club level energy. Training model pretty good, along with opportunity for advancement. Great bonus and commission.

Cons

what have you done for me lately with high turnover. Management will favor you one month, and write you up the next month if under any pressure from VP

    Pros

you make a lot of friends and get to be apart of changing lives.

    Cons

unless you are a club manager, service manager or fitness manager, you will not be paid above $8 and hour. there are a lot of times that you will be asked to cover a persons shift and you might feel stretched thin.

Former Employee - Personal Trainer II  in  San Diego, CA
Former Employee - Personal Trainer II in San Diego, CA

I worked at 24 Hour Fitness part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Ability to learn and share information with other trainers-networking
Staff underneath management was generally fun and friendly
Changing people's lives with fitness (for those who could afford it)-Results!
In a constant health related environment-free access to all facilities 24

    Cons

    Definitely lack of ethics-discrimination etc
    cutthroat culture
More of a sales job than training job-potential to harm rapport with members/clients
    politics/ lying/ inconsistencies/backstabbing by management
    no guaranteed work/hours
hassled by managers if not doing well
How much you can hustle outweighs how well you can train

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Claims have been made to fix the company. However, if interviews have to end with ultimatums on the potential to be weeded out that right there says a lot. Perhaps, outwardly embrace the idea that it IS a SALES job and maybe that will lessen the cognitive dissonance and disillusionment by your training staff.
