I have been working at A.T. Kearney full-time (more than a year)

Pros

The people in the Management Services division of A.,T. Kearney are very friendly, helpful and easy to work with. There are some great minds and thinkers. You can really build your own schedule - so as an independent worker you can really succeed. No one will micro manage you.

Cons

Sometimes the long-term vision of the firm is unclear. There is often a level of complacency with under-performers that can be quite aggravating - it's a look the other way and make up for their shortcomings approach.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider finding ways to be more efficient with lean teams. Do a better job of analyzing performance and skills.

Great place to launch a career but limited growth beyond a handful of years

I have been working at A.T. Kearney full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Authentic global mobility opportunities
    - Sponsorship opportunities for graduate education
    - Good reputation internationally

    Cons

    - Unclear and weak strategy: particularly weak in image marketing
    - Irrelevant alumni program and many leave disgruntled (e.g. poor word-of-mouth)
    - Canned-work (e.g. sourcing, transformation) is extremely boring and mundane
    - Inferiority complex and insecurity across consultants (e.g. partners dislike swagger)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The strategy of an elite consulting firm is image marketing. Everything a premier consulting firm does must support and be aligned to its image: alumni, retention, recruiting, industry focus, firm building efforts. These should all be aligned to create a great image. A.T. Kearney places excessive pride on how its people are bright at operations and supply chain, but at the end of the day what makes a MBB consultant better is not brainpower, but ultimately their image.

Great place to work. However, firm should think big and be more ambitious!

I have been working at A.T. Kearney full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Highly collaborative culture, no attitude with razor smart people
    - Folks are extremely down to earth and willing to help, no 'throwing down under the bus' mentality
    - Large brand name clients and good reputation in the industry

    Cons

    - Firm has an inferiority complex even though they do great work. If you consider MBB as your competitors, then behave like the competitiion
    - Talent retention process can be improved. Promotion times relative to other peers are long and has led to a bunch of strong performers leaving the firm for greener pastures

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Be Bold and Ambitious- not just in press releases and videos, but inculcate that behavior among consultants
    - Focus on selling more top-line work, else you will have the smaller, cheaper firms having your work for lunch
