A&E Networks – “Apathy, apathy, apathy!!

A&E Networks Director in New York, NY:   (Current Employee)

Pros

I like working in the cable TV business and A&E has some strong potential in History (if they can ever decide what it's supposed to be) and A&E channel. The people are nice and the company is very family friendly.

Cons

Apathy for new ideas and new thinking runs rampant throughout the company. There is a huge amount of dead wood in the place. If you want to be a follower and retire at the same job after 20 years, then send over your resume. Upper management seems devoid of team spirit and the ability to get the most out of those that are supposed to be pitching in. Very disorganized between departments and severe lack of communication. Too many women. Try leveling things out with a male hire once in awhile.

Advice to Senior Management

Try walking the halls and getting to know the little people. I think some of your marketing people have gone stale and some just don't know what they're doing. Try getting a handle on communication between departments that should be working together to really help move the network forward.

They're currently cutting back and unfortunately with a scalpel when they need to use a chainsaw. I'm amazed at how anything gets done there, with all the apathy, small ideas, petty territorial infighting, and endless eating. I think the HR department has actually taken a page from the old GDR mentality of "watch your neighbor, he may be saying something that harms the state." Leadership, go to some seminars to see how real companies work and think, please!!

In the Creative Services department they did get rid of one person that needed to gone many years back, but either they "had" something on their supervisor, or the supervisor was/is too lazy to see beyond their office door. Either way it's a very bad environment. Morale has been in the crapper for a long time. Other folks that have been let go... most were the wrong choices. Management within CSG should have been fired because they are absolutely useless. They are absolutely not skilled in any respect in the positions they hold. In their place should be positioned smart, strategic, thoughtful leader(s).
