I worked at AAA Texas full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The Travel Agent position is very exciting and fast paced.

If you are a people person with an inviting personality, this is a great position for you!

Very in depth training is provided for this position.

Can be a very rewarding and fulfilling job.

Cons

The company is very unwilling to pay overtime, even in the busy season, when you might be in the office an hour or two late every night.

The "Compensation Plan" (Commission Plan) can be very aggressive and ambitious, especially for beginners in the company. If you have a great manager that can walk you through the process and help foster your success, you'll be more than fine. But if you have a manager who doesn't possess those qualities, the job will be a lot more daunting.

The job is INCREDIBLY stressful at times, especially during the busy planning seasons. I only put this in the "Cons" section because if you are not cut out to handle stressful situations, this is definitely not the job for you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

1) Get back to your roots. Put more emphasis on your employees, in stead of numbers or goals. Yes, those things are important, but with out your employees, you have nothing.

2) Fully stock the offices so that during the highest volume times and seasons, your employees aren't pulling their hair out.

I worked at AAA Texas full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Free roadside service membership, decent benefits, conveniently located office location.

    Cons

Horrible management of call center, Poor marketing strategy, Backward and downright weird underwriting philosophy, Non competitive rates, Sub-standard technology and software, Toxic attitude / environment within sales ranks. Sell a policy to a prospect? Get ready to resell it to underwriters and for premium to go up, not to mention a pile of unnecessary and redundant paperwork. Complicated compensation plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's a call center and insurance, but stating the same information over and over is not helpful nor motivating. Gain a fundamental understanding of how to treat people (both customers and employees) and hire educated, outside managers. Separate roadside service and insurance business. Develop a targeted marketing program to your desired clientele (50 something white folks who don't have children, own their own home, pay premiums and never file claims). Simplify the compensation plan and require underwriting to quit interrogating potential customers. If you are going to do insurance, step up and accept the risk. That's what you are paid for.....
