Pros
ABB's Dead Tank Breaker business in Mount Pleasant, PA is in a beautiful new building. It is easy to cruise along under the radar if you are looking for a low pressure working environment because the US power generation and distribution industry is pretty strong. They have a pretty good backlog of orders coming out of 2008 that will keep the place busy into 2009 even while the economy tanks.
Cons
ABB's growth was formed by acquisitions and I found very little cooperation between business units. The processes and procedures in Mount Pleasant are antequated and very disorganized. Pay is not great compared to other opportunities in the Pittsburgh area.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote based on performance. Staff management in the Dead Tank Breaker business unit is promoted based on who they know and not necessarily on what they know.
