Pros

ACCO Brands is a copnay that is over 100 years old and has many of the old school benefits, like pensions, which are now almost completely gone. A global company with a very strong supply chain network, it is well respected in the office products industry. It is based in Lincolnshire, ILL, about 45 minutes from downtown Chicago. It was created in a merger between GBC and ACCO three years ago

Cons

The office products sector continues to contract, with customer consolidation and an overall decline in spending for office supplies due to the horrendous economic picture now. This has resulted in numerous layoffs as ACCO tries to respond to the changing landscape.

Advice to Management

Hang in there and continue to develop the brands, things will come around again

    Pros

Great co-workers. There are very many bright, intelligent people working at ACCO Brands Corporation, GBC, Kensington, and Day-Timers. They should be actively involved with turning the place around.

    Cons

Highly turbulent and very political. Perhaps now that management has turned over, the company will head in the right direction. Unfortunately, the business is structured in a way that promotes internal competitiveness that does more harm than good. Over the course of the past year or two, many of the really good executive leaders have either been forced out, retired, or have left on their own. Hopefully the new management can change all of this.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they have some great ideas

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

it is an ethical company that generally respects employees and work/life balance.

    Cons

There are a lot of turnover and strategy changes which end up costing us sales $ and customer confidence. The company does not emphasize personal growth and/or career development. Based on decisions and structural changes over the years, I question whether senior management really has an idea of what is going on with the details of the business.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your office and try to understand what is really going on in each of the business units. Try to truly understand the unique drivers for each part of the business and the ramifications of certain decisions.
