Pros

The best reasons to work for ACME Business Consulting is that the model is for local consultants to work at only local clients. There is no travel required and all clients are local, so this allows for good work/life balance. ACME also recruits smart co-workers and is supportive of community service.

Cons

ACME primary client is a government client that staffs a large percentage of the firm. Most Portland consultants are at a single client, which puts a large dependency on that client.

Advice to Management

Expand client base.

    Pros

ACME's greatest strength is its people--consultants are highly competent professionals, yet the atmosphere at ACME is not "cutthroat" or competitive like many high-performing groups can be. Consultants across the firm and across projects genuinely work to help one another, make ideas better, and deliver the best solutions to clients. In conversations with colleagues, you often feel both a sense of friendship and mutual respect/learning. ACME also has highly competent leaders who are thoughtfully leading us through a period of rapid growth. Billable hour requirements are reasonable for those full-time on projects and benefits/salary seem to be aligned with the market and on the generous side. ACME also rewards initiative--those with good ideas and the motivation to pursue them will find support and encouragement from leadership.

    Cons

Some projects require a greater time investment than others, making it challenging to find time to contribute to internal ACME projects as well. Incoming consultants should expect to work hard but also to find lots of good reasons and motivations to work hard at ACME. ACME has room to grow in its internal change leadership and in clarifying the career path options for senior-level staff (i.e. people with decades of experience).

    Advice to Management

Keep up the excellent work providing exciting client opportunities for ACME consultants. Work to inspire the team in addition to leading and managing the firm well.
