Pros

You'll have smart colleagues and nice working hours. The vacation pay is adequate and some of the supervisors are modern and open to new ideas.

Cons

Unfortunately, some supervisors are too anal-retentive/strict. Your experience will depend heavily on who you're working under. The pay is below industry average and lower than competitors in Iowa City. The very best employees seem to me to be very overworked.

Advice to Management

Upper management would do well to modernize and increase salaries. Some of this restructuring is ongoing, and seems to be going well so far.

    Pros

Great people, most are very smart, well educated, and highly motivated individuals. The main campus is set up like a college campus almost and has wonderful landscaping and places for employees to walk on breaks and lunches. There were generally lots of opportunities for advancement or lateral moves throughout the company. Great benefits compared to a lot of other companies.

    Cons

When I first started there, I couldn't believe some of the outdated processes, and the culture seemed to come more out of the 50's. But toward the end of my time there, they were really starting to upgrade systems and ideas into the current age. Lower level employees didn't have much input, even though they were the ones in the trenches. Pretty much keep quiet and do what you are told.

    Advice to Management

Keep going with the upgrading and giving employees some input. Trust your employees more, and don't micromanage.

  2. A promising career and journey cut short by lack of direction and failure to understand the value of its talent.

    Pros

The opportunity to do a variety of work in an environment of change with people who like what they do snc help people become what they want to on college and career.

    Cons

Too many changes too fast and poorly communicated along with lack of solid leadership and a system that ultimately doesn't reward you for what you do and never lets you know what impact you have.

    Advice to Management

Go to a matrix reporting structure and start catching up to the rest of the industry without adding more layers on top of people who don't have a grasp of their direction or how to leverage knowledge.
