Pros

Great health benefits, you receive vacation time, most holidays off, sick leave, and even volunteer time, the people are supportive, you can get tuition reimbursement, and there are opportunities for advancement.

Cons

The pay is not quite as high, in such a large company it can sometimes be difficult to find the right person to get what you need, things often change quickly so you need to be flexible, sometimes strong work performance does not seem to matter as much as networking.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think it would be helpful if there were rewards for meeting certain goals so you feel like doing a good job matters, even if it is just some kind of recognition or thank you note from management.

    Pros

    People there are extremely nice to you, they invite you to their home for party. Also the company arranges a lot of seminars and workshops to help you get familiar with the company culture and techniques. I also participated a volunteer program to help build a house, which was really fun.

    Cons

    Too hot in summer, many days almost 100 degrees. Maybe it's because that year was extremely hot in the whole mid-west area.

    Pros

    The ability to telecommute. Good salary and benefits.

    Cons

    I was at this company for three years and every week there was a new plan, initiative, or person in charge of setting direction. Management positions were filled from outside the organization requiring steep learning curves (not always met) and a lack of consistency of vision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire from within. Get to know your employees, particularly those not in Iowa City. Many have untapped education and experience that are valuable assets. Stop hiring people because of the "image" you are trying to present. Minorities are over-represented at the upper levels of management , e.g. Vice- Presidents, and under-represented in the rest of the organization. Hire based upon experience working within a team.
