I have been working at AECOM as a contractor (more than 8 years)

Pros

A good variety of projects, with possibility of foreign postings to mega projects. Also the opportunities to transfer to new fields of experience

Cons

As the company grows larger, it has become "de-personalised" , sometimes used to feel that we were just churning out the paper without too much thought.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Growth by M&A doesn't necessarily make for a better job

    Cold, corporate, and demoralizing

I have been working at AECOM full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Opportunities to travel
    - Some talented colleagues
    - Decent benefits

    Cons

Like the other reviews say, it's an incompetent bureaucracy with zero soul. Management is only focused on making shareholders happy, not providing client service or cultivating a place where people are inspired to produce great work. There are an unbelievable amount of barriers to just doing your job, especially in terms of project management. Hard work is not recognized or rewarded: the attitude is "you're lucky to even have job." In a word: demoralizing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To be a profitable long-term company and dominate the A&E market, try not alienating all of your staff. We're the face of the company to the people who pay our bills.

Large bureaucratic company with no prospects for most staff

I have been working at AECOM full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is good. Some travel is possible. The company pretends to care about it's staff

    Cons

It's very management top heavy with most of those managers being in place as a last man standing. Innovation and free speach are not welcome and whistle blowers are forced out of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Scrap all the middle management layers. Have real staff consultation more than just annual surveys. Act rather than post slogans everywhere.
