I have been working at AECOM as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Excellent engineering design support in Roanoke for working in a vacuum

    Cons

AECOM pressured a senior scientist to submit a working draft assessment to the client before its time. The client was furious. The scientist was "reassign." I was brought it to write several "full" assessments in 10 days; I refused, and negotiated an initial 60 days but soon realized it would be impossible as no detailed site and environs studies had been done or planned. I was prepared to present a mini-assessment within 30 days of the most visible project, but when I wrote about the non-resolved issues, I was terminated, as the issues would make the 100% design, already approved and going out for construction bids, inadequate. AECOM said they didn't have the construction and O&M contracts so the design problems were not their problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assure site assessments are done with, and not months, after construction designs; listen and learn, and not bully. Don't kill the messenger.

Hard work, little gain. No attempt to keep top talent, whilst senior management cream the few rewards

I have been working at AECOM full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Used to be full of good people. Some very technically good engineers. Legacy companies were great to work for. You get to go home eventually once work as finished.

    Cons

Dreadful, below market pay. Head in the sand senior management approach. Exploitative of staff. No idea of how to make the company great. Very unthankful culture, leading to demotivation of staff. Exodus of best staff with inability to recruit talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on delivery and providing what the client is paying for. Appreciate your staff more, as they are your greatest asset. Take your head out of the sand and listen to what your employees are saying. React accordingly rather than the unbelievable arrogance displayed. Pay rises are usually a good idea to keep staff motivated, and would be good if staff other than senior management actually saw a bonus. John D managed to pocket a ridiculous salary whilst the majority of staff in the uk havent seen a payrise for 4 years. Does this sound like a place you want to work? Maybe the senior management should use 360 ingenuity to see further, to go further (if that last sentence makes no sense to you, you arent on the AECOM gravy train)
