AIG is a decent place to work but not a place to get stuck at.

Pros

Friendly people, nice office space/cubicle. The location in Houston try to motivate employees by having contest, giveaways and food ect.

Cons

Pay is low. It is hard to move around and there is no clear structure for you to follow if you want to move up. They pay outside employees more than the loyal employees that have been with the company for year. There are people that have been with the company for 15 plus years still doing case coordination
(data entry/customer service) making less then 38K . They have been talking years about starting a cross training program which has yet to go into affect

Advice to Management

Management should start a mentoring program so that they can motivate people to do bigger and better things within the company. I dont think an employee should be working in a call center for 10 plus years. Sometimes the Manager has to step in and start prepping that person for something better. Some ppl are afraid to move around because they are not educated or have a low self esteem. I think this is where a mentoring program would be great.

    Pros

Solid benefits. Rich history. For people starting their career here, its a good place to learn your craft. You will have opportunities to learn and gather knowledge. Work hours are not extreme.

    Cons

The company is undergoing a lot of changes since 2008 financial crisis.
Like other large companies, cutbacks and internal depts striving to survive in the new "AIG" by asserting their own will against each other are commonplace now.
Monetary increases/bonuses and job stability is unsatisfactory these days as AIG is pulling itself back on its feet.

    Advice to Management

Redo employee review compensation policies. Roundtable reviews where employees are compared to other employees of similar functions aren't beneficial especially when other managers not in your dept have a say in your review.. Employee ratings and job grading are too broad when determining increases and bonuses. Go back to the old system where your primary manager and his boss controls your review.
