    I have been working at AIG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Much that's already been said: decent pay, decent PTO, superior benefits (i.e. pension, 401k), and a true sense of camaraderie among (some of) the groups. As a Fortune 500 company, it's also a great resume booster too.

    Cons

    - Frequent misallocation of tasks to employees results in a persistent feeling of 'burn-out'

    - Outdated hardware/software impedes work flow (and is occasionally embarrassing when consultants/executives visit)

    - Project initiatives are rushed, so everyone ends up, 'covering the same real estate twice [or more]'

    - Training sequence for new hires is inconsistent, outdated, and riddled with errors; management has not taken the time to define the sequence in advance

    - Capable managers are sorely lacking; the more senior staff has to assume responsibility for carrying out poorly defined directives/requests

    - Poor utilization of vendor product capabilities result in much wasted time, especially regarding data queries/collection

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Overloading your employees with tasks without providing more calendar will only diminish quality; either hire additional workers or add more calendar for task completion

    - Upgrade the hardware and software platforms to sufficient levels

    - PLAN your project initiatives before executing them, so you're not wasting time down the road with error fixes

    - Improve all aspects of the training sequence, including the presentations, scheduling of instructors, and workshops to increase familiarity with knowledge/application of concepts

    - Quit playing politics, and fire the managers who act like they've never even heard of the word

    - Properly train your employees in all aspects of the vendor product, so as to save time on tasks
