Current Employee - Shift Manager  in  Indianapolis, IN
Current Employee - Shift Manager in Indianapolis, IN

Pros

Hourly rate is good, but the you are limited on hours unless you call around to find hours at other stores.

Cons

To keep productivity high, cashiers are forced to stock the shelves AND run the cash register at the same time. Customers are forced to wait to be rung up until the cashier that is stocking notices them standing at the register. No matter how productive your store is, the DM's rarely aknowledge it and only want more. Unless you have a 4 year degree, YOU HAVE NO CHANCE OF ADVANCING PAST STORE MANAGER. The majority of the DM's are in their early 20's, right out of college and have no clue what they're doing. They sound like they are reading from a script. They say the same phrases, like " can I get you anything before I leave"

Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a grocery store, not the Military. Employees would be much more productive if they weren't so stressed all of the time.

It's a decent place to work

Current Employee - Cashier in Cleveland, TN

    Pros

The store manager is good. He gives time off for personal life and works around schedules..i.e. school, family, etc. Benefits are good. Hourly wage is decent.

    Cons

There never seems to be enough people working at the store at one time. We are always told that sales aren't enough to have more employees working. It's hard to keep up with all that is asked, i.e...good customer service, cleanliness, stocking, etc. Sometimes it is only one cashier and one shift manager. Trust me...it's a lot of work for the money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think more focus on providing good customer service and a pleasant shopping experience, rather than did you sling the 45 items per minute into the shopping cart.
